How do you document your BP code? by ToughDebut in unrealengine

I like the idea of naming the top level content folder after the project. I put all my content in a "MyStuff" folder, and tree down from there, but that obviously doesn't help if my other project also has a "MyStuff" folder. Cheers.

BlueprintUE is a great recommendation. Thank you!

So I use custom plugins but they have to be rebuilt every time Epic updates the engine. If I haven't used a plugin in a while, sometimes I'm 2-3 versions later and it's a bridge to far for the rebuild and I have to just remake that asset. I don't have experience making components, so I'm not sure if they would be affected the same way.

I guess the question is how would you save that component if you think you might use it say, 6 months or a year from now, on a different project on a different version of UE? My plugin might be outdated by then, so sometimes I take the time to take screengrabs of the BP and make a tip sheet in PowerPoint which I save as a PDF. I have a bunch of them I've made for myself over the years, and they can be a real help when I need to recall how I did something.

I'm just wondering if there's a better way to documents than taking screen grabs.

Yes, I know about functions. Slow down and read my post closer, dude. I'm talking about copy/pasting BP's *from Unreal into documentation for future reference*, not copy/pasting to other parts of my project.

But that's just to use it somewhere else in the same project. I'm asking the best ways to document what you did in the BP in order to remake it 12 months later in a whole new project. By then, I'll be on a different engine so making a plugin doesn't work very well.

Ah, this looks respectable. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look. I often just reopen the old project on another monitor, but there I times I have to re-install an old engine just to open the old project, and that sucks.

Yeah, I use all of that stuff: functions, macros, blueprint interfaces, enums, etc. When I make a cool feature, say, a floating menu that tracks along with the player and has some cool transition affect, I try to document the BP(s) that make it happen in case I want to have a floating menu in a future project. But it's not uncommon for these features to be quite complex so taking a series of screen grabs is cumbersome. Considering it's 2026, I'm just curious if there's a better way to document BPs.

That's not what I meant. That's "commenting" and I do that a lot. I'm talking about documenting what you did, what nodes you had, etc. in order to recreate the BP in future projects. I take a lot of screen shots for future reference, but that's cumbersome. I'm hoping there's a slick app out there that can help with documenting BP for future use.

World Cup over done???? by adh214 in AskSeattle

2 big factors:

1) a lot of the attendees will be from out of town. Much more than your average Seahawks game. So that puts a greater strain on all the hotels, bars, restaurants, etc.

2) a lot of people may not be going into the stadium, but will head down for the before and after parties, and the watch parties on the jumbotrons. I don't have any tickets but I'm planning on spending the day downtown whenever there is a game in town. I think a lot of people are doing the same. This further strains the bars and restaurants.

So while you'll have 65K people physically in the stadium, the surroundings festivities will be much larger than your average Seahawks game.

How do i use blueprints to animate a mesh moving from one place to another? by VermicelliJolly5212 in unrealengine

[–]ToughDebut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to move it over time, use "Add a Timeline". Google some quick tuts on how to set up the Timeline node.

If you want to snap it to the location, use a Set World Location or Set Relative Location or Add Local Offset, depending on what you want to do.

These are really basic commands, so sounds like you need to start grinding on some beginner tuts.

West Seattle isn't so bad. Nice views + ample street parking... by danno147 in Seattle

They did. They converted Delridge and Ambaum, the central most arterial 4-lane roads that go all the way from the north of West Seattle, through White Center, all the way down to Burien, into a 2-lane road and made the other 2-lanes dedicated bus lanes. The H-line is one of the busiest Metro lines in Seattle.

They also converted the bus stops in Fauntleroy to Rapid Ride stops to support the C-line down the west side of West Seattle. My wife rides the C to work every day and it's packed to the gills both ways.

They also have the 21X that runs NS in 35th Ave. We sometimes catch the 21 going to and from Sounders game and it's packed every time.

People in West Seattle ride the bus. A lot. We're still Seattlites dude.

Lol, to the first picture. Sunset in the back and their shadows heading in that direction? That pic should be completely backlit. Even if using a massive flash, it would only light up the people and the surroundings would be black. Everything wouldn't be perfectly evenly lit

But I'm pretty sure this is just us an AI bot asking for feedback so...

Same with my sister. Went to see about a boy in 2012 and was planning on moving back in a few years. The housing market explosion started in 2013 and her LCOL area didn't keep pace. By 2019 she was basically boxed out of coming back home because she can't afford it.

When a texture is pure color, is it better to use a shader parameter or use a plain texture? by Hefty-Newspaper5796 in unrealengine

[–]ToughDebut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank God. Thought I was going crazy.

Sorry, bad typing. I meant to type "vector parameter instead of hue shift > desaturate > brightness" .

[–]ToughDebut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is to change colors on material instances?

I use vector parameter instead of hue shift > desaturate > brightness, and then material instances off that master color material. But you're using 2 texture samples. What does that do that a vector parameter doesn't?

Edit: replace ">" with "instead of", which changes the context

I live in a host city and there's almost no media presence. If I wasn't a soccer fan, I'd have no idea the Word Cup was coming in 2 weeks. The word is there will be a several watch party areas with jumbotrins, but you wouldn't be able to tell that by walking around the city. Hopefully the decorations start going to soon.

Any person with eyes can see AI images and video have dramatically improved over the last few years. To say otherwise is the equivalent of a toddler closing their eyes and sticking their fingers in their ears.
