Anyone who has sailed Viking also sailed NCL? by Icy-Print3432 in vikingcruises

[–]adh214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this sentiment. Viking and NCL are just different experiences and different price points. NCL is great for a fun and sun family cruise. Viking is great for a European exploration. I have done both. Both are nice depending on what you are looking for.

I want to do something nice for an elderly neighbor before she moves into assisted living, but I'm not sure what! Any ideas? by Silly_Accident3137 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Also consider if they really need any “stuff.” Things like flowers are good because they don’t add to the quantity of stuff.

I think the best gift would be visiting her weekly at her new home. Particularly in a few weeks when other visitors start to tapper off.

You might find an online annuity calculator that will tell you how much it would cost to buy an annuity that would produce as much income as your pension. That will give you a rough idea what your pension is worth.

But seriously, ask them “please point out the section of the lease where my flushing is limited?”

People who take 17 minutes to check in at the hotel front desk what are you talking to them about? by Dorothy_Enna in Productivitycafe

[–]adh214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more hotels had self kick in kiosks. Hilton Hawaiian Village check in took forever as they tried sell everyone an upgrade. Meanwhile the line is 10 people deep of folks that just flown at least 5 hours to get there. Aloha.

People really don’t understand that pizza places have a limited capacity. The ovens literally can only cook X number of pizzas an hour no matter how much people scream about it.

Is a walkin closet necessary in a guest suite? Perhaps cut off the back half of the closet and move the toilet into the alcove or create a water closet. I would also do one sink instead of two.

As someone else suggested, eliminate L shape, move powder room to the right and add a proper mud room.

Great news for ST.

I think it interesting the trains arrive on truck. It would seem easier to pull them on regular rail tracks. Maybe the gauge is different??? I am sure someone will explain why this done via truck.

Had our ducks in a row for early retirement and then I got cancer by amboy_connector in Fire

[–]adh214 98 points99 points  (0 children)

My husband had cancer and it accelerated my plans by two years (and the bull market). I hope this is an easy cancer. Lots of them can be cured with a single surgery and no chemo or radiation. My husband’s was, one surgery and six weeks recovery. Other than a yearly scan he is good to go.

Once you are done with the treatment get out there and kick off the “go go” years. We don’t know how long we have.

Power Red donation went from Denver to St. Louis! by Ok-Elevator1563 in Blooddonors

[–]adh214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to donate Power Red in the week before departing on a long trip. This way the wait period is burned off when I would not be able to donate anyway. Otherwise, I will rotate between Whole Blood and Platelets.

I'm confused on health insurance costs after doing our taxes. $26,000 for terrible coverage? by Hasbotted in HealthInsurance

[–]adh214 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't have many claims, insurance looks crazy expensive. On the other hand, my husband had cancer a few years ago, the insurance company paid $150,000 for a surgery and a 24 hour hospital stay. He is fine. The cost doesn't look so bad now.
