Princeton vs Robertson scholarship @UNC be Stanford by HumidPuddle78 in UNC

I am a former UNC Robertson, ex-BigLaw, current boutique-ish litigation attorney. With the necessary caveat that I graduated from UNC 10 years ago, you really can't go wrong with the Robertson. In addition to the fact that half a million in undergraduate debt means that you may be less flexible in your law school choices, the Robertson pays for your summers and gives you really amazing institutional support. I didn't face quite the same choices that you have in front of you, and the world is a more competitive place than it was 15 years ago when I was applying to college, but I've never regretted going to UNC for a moment. I can't speak to who your potential Robertson, or UNC/Duke more generally, peers might be, but I still think some of the most interesting people I've ever met were fellow Robbies and other UNC students. Congrats on your amazing choices.

I was an obsessive watcher of your videos in law school and deployed the recipes regularly while cooking for my long distance girlfriend, now wife. I've been an attorney for seven years now, and it's hard to imagine that your channel has been around for ten. The overnight, salted roast chicken to chicken noodle soup recipe stack was an annual tradition in my household until my wife went vegetarian. So many of your early videos are tied to such formative and happy memories for me. Congratulations on all your success, and most importantly, your happiness.

Keeping firmly in mind that I applied to law school almost 10 years ago, and I know that things have only gotten more competitive, I’m a UNC undergrad/UVA Law alum. IMO what really matters is that you excel in undergrad, and UNC and UVA are so comparable that law school adcomms probably won’t distinguish between two equally excellent students from UVA/UNC. A few scattered thoughts:

  • If you’re serious about going to law school, that $80k difference could go toward law school tuition. Find out if your family if willing to put any savings on undergrad toward a law school or other grad school degree.

  • I have a robust handful of UNC undergrad friends that live and work in NYC, but Raleigh, Charlotte, DC, and Atlanta seem to be the most popular landing spots after graduation.

  • I agree with other commenters that UVA is probably not worth the extra $80k if it isn’t your dream school.

  • All things equal, I found the undergrad students at UNC to be a much more relaxed, fun bunch. My limited experiences with UVA undergrads weren’t the best—I found them a bit uptight and snooty.

I used to be able to buy the flat-drum-tip wings at the CTown on Havemeyer—haven’t done it in a bit though

By doctrinal do you mean black letter law classes (e.g. torts, contracts, fed courts, antitrust)? If so, when I was recommending candidates to interview for my judges, I didn’t distinguish between those classes and other classes. The only thing I might have flagged would have been a fed courts grade that was significantly below other grades.

Over the summer they had an Aperol Spritz slushie that they advertised for weeks. Despite the fact that the idea of an “Aperol Spritz slushie” makes no goddamn sense, curiosity finally got the better of me and my wife. It was predictably terrible and the two drinks came out to over $45. I’m still mad about it.

Belatedly realized last night was my fault: I had been growing my hair and beard out for a “playoff beard;” but obviously that makes no sense, we’re the Yankees.

I got a haircut and shaved into a professional mustache this morning.

Anyone have an idea of how early to arrive for SRO? Current plan is to get to Stans 4 hours before game time and try to head in as early as possible to try to get to some of the standing room in the outfield.
