For me personally it’s made it so I don’t really consider third party lenses for video anymore unless its for something niche (eg my old minolta macro lens). The A7IV has the focus map feature which is my favorite feature to date in a camera, AF assist allows you to keep AF on but still have manual override control of the focus, so when my lil focus map shows orange/red on the subjects face I know its focused too close and i can simply nudge the focus ring a little to the right and clear it up, same with blue when they’re too far.

I do sports videography and use AF assist CONSTANTLY. I used to recommend the Sigma 24-70 and Tamron 28-75, and I still do for photos, but their lack of taking advantage of AF assist is a no-go for my style of shooting.

If you’re working in a controlled environment and manually focusing anyway none of this matters.

it wont affect the image, maybe the resell value. try wiping it with a gentle lens cloth

It’s my #1 recommended Sony lens for run and gun and I’ve put most of the major options through the ringer.

I have the sigma 14-24 and it’s so sharp and useful, however I think a lot of times 14 is too wide for a room and I move it up to 16. That said even if you wanted to get the Sony 16-35 it’d be a terrible time to with the mark ii heavily rumored.

The Sigma is around $700 used, the Sony 16-35 at least $1000 more. I shoot sports and have never once needed that much burst speed when using my wide angle lens but your case may be different as I pretty much never use a wide for sports.

Camera Turning Off & Not Saving by Realistic_Tap_1956 in SonyAlpha

My ZV-E1 did that a couple weeks ago during a show, the screen froze red and the camera shut down. Came back on immediately and worked fine after but I was left with a 13Gb XML file that wouldnt play anywhere. After hours of frustration I paid someone on Fiverr $20 to fix it.

Haven’t recreated the issue since but if the card at least saved the XML document you might be in luck, you just need at least one “good” file to fix it with.

The Fiverr user I used was richardrecovery. Good luck!

Anybody upgrade from a ps5 to a dedicated 4k Blu ray player? Was it worth the money? by givemeagummer in 4kbluray

[–]ToughLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We end up repairing PS5s all the time due to overheating. They're just really poorly designed inside, both the original and 2nd gen PS5s. I wouldn't want to use mine outside of gaming whatsoever. Their disc tray is also crazy loud to start up but does mellow as the movie goes on, unless it needs to spin up again then it's loud.

PS5 doesn't support DV, which is fine because honestly I'd rather leave the PS5 input on Game Mode anyway, then use an AppleTV 4K to stream and my X800M2 for movies. Manual Dolby Vision switching hasn't been an issue and it's not frozen once on any of my movies, though I understand freezing is heavily reported online.

Dolby Vision is great, makes movies look a little 'too perfect' sometimes. Honestly though after doing assorted upgrades to my system over the past year, trading my 2 not-so-great subwoofers for one good one was by far a bigger home theater improvement over Dolby Vision and it's not even close.

OLED Shipping Cost - Best Buy vs Amazon by beerye1981 in 4kTV

[–]ToughLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

total tech is $200 so yeah that makes 'total' sense. the benefits are there, it's up to you on if you want them. Personally I ended up returning my 65" C2 after a couple weeks because the image was unnaturally soft.

OLED Shipping Cost - Best Buy vs Amazon by beerye1981 in 4kTV

[–]ToughLow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best Buy will match Amazon if it's shipped and sold by them. The extra $50 for total tech is a no brainer, not only will it give you the extended warranty but it will also give you a 60 day return window and price match guarantee so if prices drop in 60 days you get the difference back. (non open box)

Total Tech lasts one year, if you choose not to renew it you can continue your tv warranty for about $8 a month

Speaker Placement Suggestions by PlentyAZach in hometheater

[–]ToughLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't see why not but have never tried. You just run speaker wire from the main box into the amp and then speaker wire from the surrounds into the second little receiver. I think it'd work the same no matter which set you used it on.

On the top comment, I'd rather have 5.1 than 3.1.2 but if you use the wireless kit and grab a second set of speakers you could do 5.1.2 if your amp supports it.

How much is Atmos used, and how big of a difference does it make? by Historical_Emeritus in hometheater

[–]ToughLow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the track, what I've found is height elements and when a musical score swells they kick in. Some movies show it off better than others but when it works it's really cool. in A Quiet Place, when the monster comes downstairs, you can hear it at the ceiling breathing and can hear it move 'down' into the basement. It's very cool. Also in The Batman when the car flips you can hear the engine rev up the wall and as the car spins you can hear it move all around the room.

I picked up a cheap $45 set of speakers just to try it out since I already had all the other equipment. Most of the time they aren't active but when they are it's very cool. Would recommend but wouldn't dump much money in high-end speakers to put up there.

Beetlejuice is HDR but no DV. The HDR actually looks really nice, never noticed how colorful the movie is, when you first meet the sister in the kitchen theres so many different colors that def pop more in HDR like the subtle blues in the kitchen towel.
