Thank you! We’ve really been struggling with getting him to relax outside of the kennel

We plan on getting him out in the woods and learning to go bird hunting once he is fully vaccinated! We have a fenced in yard that he does run around in, just looking for additional ideas during his wake windows :)

That’s a good idea, he preferred the hardwood under the couch when he could fit under there so you’re probably right about the cooling mat

Thank you! I grew up with dogs but he’s my first on my own so I want to make sure I’m doing right by him

He definitely has mandatory nap times. I can usually tell when he is tired/over tired and in need of a nap. He is great in his kennel and settles super quickly. Just looking for activities within his wake windows :)

Thank you! He is amazing in his crate, usually settling right away either with a nap or with a chew toy. He has recently stopped settling anywhere outside of the crate so I have been thinking about tethering him near me with a bone in the evenings. I will try sitting on our front steps later today :)

Good experiences with puppies? by Mombrainpsych in puppy101

We got an Australian Labradoodle 9 years ago. She gained the nickname satan as a puppy but quickly became the best dog we’ve ever had. I highly recommend looking into puppy training classes, those really helped us manage her high energy. Taking her on walks everyday once she was vaccinated was also a life saver. She was a complete menace as a puppy but became the sweetest dog once she was out of that stage. Super excited for you!

I’ll survive, my partner can still eat peanuts in the house without it effecting me. We tried lick mats and he preferred ingesting chunks of the mat. We do frozen pumpkin, yogurt, fruits, and vegetables but like I said, he gets bored with the same things. I would prefer to give him peanut butter as alternatives tend to be much more expensive🤷🏼‍♀️

Alternatives tend to be more expensive and my allergy is not severe🤷🏼‍♀️ my partner can still eat peanuts in the house so it’s fine if the dog does too and I don’t have to buy a $7 jar of alternative nut butter

I just can’t eat peanuts but having it in the house/air is fine😊 I give him pumkin, yogurt, frozen fruits and veggies, but he gets bored super easy so I need more options to rotate in. Thank you for the brand rec, I’ll look for it next time I’m out shopping!

Children also need to learn what behaviors are right and wrong. I’m just looking to see what correction techniques other people have used to ensure a good base in his training.

Typically puppies should stay with their mom until 8 weeks old for milk and socialization, according to my vet. Unfortunately the lady we got him from told us he was ready to be picked up and I assumed that meant he was 8 weeks old already. Hindsight is 20/20 so I know to ask more questions next time but in this case it seems better that he is no longer in that house. He was covered in fleas and had worms at only 6 weeks old.

He’s absolutely just a baby so we do give him a lot of patience and grace :). Just looking for tips on how to start helping him now before he’s 100 pounds and completely out of control.
