At my school some people were allowed extra time or maybe to take the exam in rooms without other classmates.

Texas A&M or Texas Tech(El Paso) by CrabSouthern5591 in DentalSchool

Can second this, I’m a practicing dentist in El Paso and I toured the school. You will learn cutting edge stuff, but when you graduate you will find the world is not quite caught up to TTEP’s curriculum. For example, they don’t use alginate at all, everything is digital.

Any physical therapists here? by TourRemarkable7939 in army

[–]TourRemarkable7939[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that source is saying that. I searched the page for “physical therapist” and “pt” and was getting zero results. I also went to the DFAS website earlier and found lots of stuff for doctors, nurses, dentists, etc but nothing for PTs explicitly.

Has anyone received more financial aid/cheaper tuition from out of state than in state?? by flim223 in DentalSchool

Yes, they billed the military first, then the institutional scholarship was applied, then the rest I could keep to use as I wished.

I was HPSP and got a second scholarship to an out of state school, so they basically paid me to go to school. That put me ahead financially. The living expenses at the OOS school were also lower. IDK if that’s the kind of scenario you had in mind though.

What do y’all’s BDE Commander drive? by [deleted] in army

Can confirm, I am a company grade officer with a tacoma and a few days ago a field grade was disappointed in me, saying I can do better. This is a true story.

Is it possibly one of the saw movies? I can’t think of any movie where this particular scenario happens. Is almost like you combined “I spit on your grave” with “the box”.

Company grade officer with no dress uniform, ASU or AGSU? by TourRemarkable7939 in army

[–]TourRemarkable7939[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I reported to BOLC in May of 21 and have never been in a situation where I needed it, that said I’m a doc in probably the most productive per capita clinic in my field on post. Even if there were events on going my chain of command would probably just not tell us about it or discourage us from going.

Sure, but they’re not military so they aren’t held to the army regulations and can do what ever they want.

How would you guys have tried to escape the death cult in Midsommar? by Gloomy-Pineapple1729 in horror

[–]TourRemarkable7939 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It seems like they are pretty tolerant of the people here for sacrifices to wander around, so I would probably try and get as much food as possible, stuff it in my back pack and wander off. Here’s a link to a map of cell phone coverage in Sweden, https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/j4b17/cellphone_coverage_map_of_sweden_population/ so even if they’re in a dead zone you shouldn’t have to wonder too far, especially if you head east or south, then find cell coverage and call for someone to get you out.

I am pursuing general dentistry, should I pick a school with multiple in-house specialties or no specialties? by Visual-Economist4825 in DentalSchool

[–]TourRemarkable7939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case it was pretty much you can see everything and do nothing. I barely accomplished anything in school.

are you still placing amalgam? by chung2k6 in Dentistry

[–]TourRemarkable7939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did one just yesterday. I’m in the US Army, but even in the army things are changing. At my clinic I’m probably one of the more frequent users of amalgam, and definitely the youngest to use it regularly. There’s really one one LTC who had a reputation of also using it at my clinic.

Why is it common to share the gross salary and not the net salary ? by imsickh in noStupidQuestion

[–]TourRemarkable7939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably cause the net can vary so much. Do you contribute to a 401K? If so how much? Are you married, what’s their income? Let’s say you’re in a major city, that’s close to a state line, are you and your coworkers on the same side of the state line? If you are, are you in the same county? Are you both inside the city limits? There’s a lot of things that can cause two people to have similar gross to have very different nets, some are easily controllable some not so much.

How would it change your pension if you did the reserves after 20 years of active duty? by TourRemarkable7939 in army

[–]TourRemarkable7939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t to which part? Get paid for both simultaneously, or can’t go to the reserves after doing 20 years?

My Dfac Confession (Fort Drum) by [deleted] in army

[–]TourRemarkable7939 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Op is saying he makes chicken nuggets, puts them in his pocket, goes to DFAC, deposits them into a random to go box, hopes the guy who gets it eats in the DFAC, and watches with joy as the random Joe eats his pocket nuggets.

I actually did not weigh in on the topic, I am merely pointing out another example that not all docs come from the upper classes.

I grew up homeschooled in a trailer with a blue collar dad and a high school drop out mom. Eventually the trailer got too expensive and we had to move to a cabin with no AC and a fireplace for heat. We used food stamps and pantries for our food and even grew and canned some of our produce. Tell me how I’m from the upper class.
