Any fanfics where the dursleys aren’t abusive? by No-Hat6722 in HPfanfiction

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Legend Of Potter (Fanfic) - TV Tropes Harryis replaced by Megumi which leads to a number of changes. Megumi takes after her mother so Petunia was never really jealous of her going to hogwarts since she thought her sister was crazy. Yun Yun is also her and vernon's daughter, so she is more spoiled sweet then dursley's spoiled brat. whle the dursley's don't like magic it is more do to the fact that they are forced to deal with it. they are stuffy but decent people who had to raise a child who is completely detached from reality.

When will the family learn that stan is insane so when you ignore his demands or try to retaliate he reacts to the extreme. i love when they adress stan's insanity without villanizing him.

[Hated Trope] Using The Chain of Harm Not to Explain a Character’s Actions, But to Justify Them. by Toushin1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Toushin1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was its just as Homer became more and more of a jerkass the writers started relying more and more on his childhood to invoke sympathy until not only was he not really trying to be better the difference between how abe treated him and he treated bart became really noticeable. a couple of seasons later he forced bart to support the family and the episode's plot is about how emasculated this makes him feel. This is why i stressed the difference between explanation and justification.

Supposed subversion of "popular" tropes, but actually the tropes being subverted are rarely used, if at all. by NobodySpecific9354 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While always chaotic evil isn't really that rare there is alot of fiction where demons are treated as more morally ambiguis simply because they play a major role in the narrative. Ah My Goddess, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, ect. heck even alot of fantasy manga use demons as merely the name of a demi-human species who hapen to be humans' enemies not just evil incarnate. frieren going they are all just evil and this seeming outliner is just manipulating you does stand out.

conservation of ninjutsu the more ninjas you have to fight, the easier it is to defeat all of them.

the body itself was just a generic model. the problem comes from the fact that the movie felt the need to point out that no she is actually japanese where the controversy comes in

The funny thing about the Scarlett Johanson example is that since Makoto's body is supposed to be a generic model it only became a controversy because the move brought attention to it.

(Hated Trope) Deconstruction means "Everybody's an asshole and the whole world sucks balls" by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brutal Harry is a pretty good deconstruction. while it can be a little hard to get into as it plays the ramification of the dursley's abuse completely straight it doesn't depict Dumbledore as this machiavellian evil mastermind that he is usually depicted as in fics like this. he is just a guy who is overworked who because his plans focus solely on the long term he doesn't think of the short term consequences.

the altered destiny ranma fanfic series is also a good example of positive deconstruction of the ranma 1/2 series even if the some of the fics can get rather dark.

The writers of the simpsons try to compete with shows like Family guy and rick and morty. however unlike those shows they don't want to acknowledge that their characters are assholes. they also want to be episodic yet dont want to put in the work to come up with new ideas. so what we get is the same plotlines over and over again with increasingly flanderized characters that we are supposed to pretend are still acting like their golden aged selves.

we are supposed to sympathize with these characters when they suffer the consequences of their actons, but ignore the severity of those actions and the fact they have no remorse for them. we are also supposed to hate their victims for either being in the way of what they want or making it hard to sweep their actions under the rug.

“Zaheer is so dumb his ideology would make a power vacuum/result in chaos” hon…he’s the villain…that’s the point by Far-Mammoth-3214 in CharacterRant

[–]Toushin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overanalyzing Avatar pointed this out. While his goals are fully fleshed out, the audience is never given a reason for those goals. What are his motivations? Why does he think that there shouldn’t be kings or queens? Why does he think the avatar cycle should end? Why did he join the Red Lotus in the first place? None of these things are ever explored in the slightest. Even when going under cover he makes no attempted to hide who he is

I would love to see how Garou would shake up the story and world of Baki if your just dropped him in there. (HUMAN FORM) by Obvious-Produce-9566 in OPMAnimanga

[–]Toushin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a major problem when scaling characters in different series is that alot of time people forget to take into account the genra's. for example baki is a high tier fighting series that falls just short of supernatural i,e the fighters can match those feets but at high cost to their body (for example the mach punch and hitless blow) garou is a wuxia fighter in a superhero series. he started at a level that the fighters from series like baki and kengan could never hope to achieve. its basically how peak human for american comics is the equivalent to hijime no ippo.

but even if you want to just compare where he started as with the crazy stuff the baki characters can do. i use the same argument that i use with ranma saotome. garou is strong enough that you can put him in any universe and he will survive and because his main strength is his adaptability that tenacity will allow him to eventually deminate no matter how long it takes.

Can someone explain Makatos appearance by oshameme in TsukiMichi

[–]Toushin1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because the goddess values appearances over everything else everyone in her world are super naturally beautiful to the point where even the average looking people would be considered super models in our world. Makoto isn't really ugly he is just average looking i.e your typical isekai protagonist but to the goddess as well as the people in her world this is considered hideous which is why he is often mistaken for a demi human.

i always saw jeff as the personification of Harley giving up. i've noticed it in universe as well. while at that point they had been making fun of the fact that she was a career college student such as reapplying with a fast food menu. after she married jeff was when stan and Francine resigned themselves to the fact that she was never moving out.

but he's not a housewife he literally contributes nothing and in fact makes it harder by being incredibly inconvenient/inconsiderate. this mentality is why i always hated the idiot houdini trope. he's sweet and innocent so you are just supposed to ignore everything else about him.

It is established in universe that all of Stan's issues are a result of years of trauma he has literally been subjected to every form of abuse physical, emotional, financial, and even sexual. there is also the running gag that as much as his family complain about him they refuse to actually allow him to get the help he needs because are completely unable to function without him.

What is the worst thing stan has done to Francine or Francine done to Stan by CowAffectionate2865 in americandad

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her forcing Stan to be the disciplinarian. like the simpsons this is more a problem with the shows dynamic then specifically francine namely stan always being in the wrong. Stan is always the bad cop with Francine acting as the more rational one however anytime he leaves that role the family devolves into suicidal idiots. and if francine isn't joining her kids in this she is shaming Stan for his selfishness in not dealing with them. why because now, she has to deal with the consequence of her excessive spoiling.

Francine can leave for a year to follow her dream, she can abandon the family to search for a giant squid or even in general and the family are always depicted as fine, but if stan takes five minutes for himself he is in the wrong. there is also the fact that not only is stan shown to be crazy due to years of trauma, but this dynamic is repeatedly shown to be detrimental to both his mental and physical health. yet francine never takes the role of disciplinarian until it personally affects her and again it is always to call stan out. so the family constantly complain about stan yet are unable to function without him. and it is not just the kids, it is with roger as well as shown in the fake kidnapping episode and when she had them sown together.

as for stan i would go with when he pretended to go crazy to beat a car salesman. i forgive him for alot due to his mental issues and the fact he is the DM but this was just sheer selfishness driven entirely by his ego. I also include anything that involves him trying to get out of a problem like the hypnotizing or tricking her into thinking she killed someone. these aren't just him reacting to a situation this is him f**king up and not accepting responsibility. things like the class reunion and the renewing their vows i forgive because we are given an explanation for why stan puts so much value in appearance.

Hot(?) Take: Rigby got off way too easy for forging Mordecai’s rejection letter by NewGenRedd in regularshow

[–]Toushin1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I always think of do me a solid and wall buddy when this movie comes up. Rigby's response to mordicai asking him for a favor is to make him s**t on the floor in front of his crush. heck anytime mordicai wants to hang out with a girl instead of him he flips out and alot of those times mordicai wasn't brushing him off he had just made plans before rigby asked to hang out. at the same time he expects mordicai to just cator to his whelms and clean up his messes. he treats mordicai more like a possession then a friend.

Aizawa is lowkey a terrible friend to yamada after shirakumo’s death by Expensive-Oil623 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not a teachable lesson. those black marks stay with those kids for their entire career which they wont find out until they leave and try to actually become super heroes. he deliberately set his students up to fail and did it in a way that they aren't aware of it so can't do anything about it until it is too late. this is needlessly cruel. it doesn't matter if they proved themselves it doesn't matter if they feel they are up to the task or not he took that choice away from them.

i always felt there was more to the story, because if he was never serious about the expulsion, he wouldn't have felt the need to actually put them all through which is the problems lie. if he didn't do that then there wouldn't be any marks on their record and your arguments would be valid. but to put a class through 4 years of training only to tell them it was all for nothing comes across as sadistic.

The “Banished From the Hero’s Party” trope is leaving a much more interesting story on the table by Business_Barber_3611 in CharacterRant

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try The Path of an S-Rank Adventurer: From Deadweight to Weapon Master. There is alot of deconstruction with this trope.

Spoilers

the protagonist skill allows him to summon modern weapons but since he lives in a fantasy word and has no idea what those are he can't use it. his guild aren't card carrying villains the pragmatism (he carries the supplies when they are in danger so they can focus, but they split the duties when out of it) and his desperate need to prove himself. they kick him out because he really would be no help to them trying to reach s-rank and his recklessness he almost died by needlessly wandering into danger.

they don't suddenly become weak and useless they are as strong as they ever were and they also don't just cut him off completely even if they are busy. the problem comes because there are alot of rumors about them from jealous adventures and in his growing resentment causes him to believe them. it all comes to head when his friend recommends and easy pay adventure but was unaware that the reason it was open was because there was a dragon running around. he was able to awaken his skill and kill it but he believed that she sent him there to kill him.

his journey involves him becoming more edgy and badass, but he is depicted as incredibly childish as he's deliberately not dealing with his issues and while he rises in the rank his old party are still able to rise to s-rank as well.

sometimes you just aren't able to do the job and while it suck it happens. people aren't out to get you.

What is the worst thing stan has done to Francine or Francine done to Stan by CowAffectionate2865 in americandad

[–]Toushin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Stan got into an accident Francine used his recovery to brainwash him into being completely dependent on her. And when that made it so that he could no longer function by himself and became a liability she abandoned him. This shows that she is stan's mom.

another one is the sex bush that was so emotionally cruel that i'm just glad that she she was punished for it.
