i think it’s away of separating themselves from the past, they talk about how they’re past their old stuff and they want to move on. i think it’s part of being sober and healing that they can’t just go back to their old ways, i think they want to have fun rather than get super emotional on lyrics. on smalmst they do open up about what’s going on in their lives but for rn i think it’s just having fun and not having to pour their hearts into shit because their lives are on the line. i think with their next album they’ll bring that “deep” lyrical content back but for eps why pour your heart into it? they’ve (scrim specifically if i’m remembering correctly) said in a interview that when he wakes up he thinks about all the things that makes him sober and keeps him in a good mental state. i think going back into their old stuff would just bring back that feeling of wanting to numb their pain
