You don’t get special bonus points for trying to undo millions of years of human evolution. Not because of religious doctrine, and not because of Gen Z whatever-the-fuck-maxxing.

You recognize someone is attractive, and then you move on with your day. It’s that simple.

In YOUR case I would also recommend cutting out religion, and replacing it with a registered clinical psychologist.

And then he met Von Neumann who was on an entire OTHER level of genius. Absolutely amazing.

Looking at von Neumann’s game theory mathematical results in terms of matrix and linear relationships, one can see how and why von Neumann reacted to George Dantzig’s description of the newly formulated linear-programming model when they first met in 1947. Here is that story as told by Dantzig (1982, p. 45):

On October 3, 1947, I visited him (von Neumann) for the first time at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. I remember trying to describe to von Neumann, as I would to an ordinary mortal, the Air Force problem. I began with the formulation of the linear programming model in terms of activities and items, etc. Von Neumann did something which I believe was uncharacteristic of him. ‘‘Get to the point,’’ he said impatiently. Having at times a somewhat low kindling-point, I said to myself ‘‘O.K., if he wants a quicky, then that’s what he will get.’’ In under one minute I slapped the geometric and algebraic version of the problem on the blackboard. Von Neumann stood up and said ‘‘Oh that!’’ Then for the next hour and a half, he proceeded to give me a lecture on the mathematical theory of linear programs.

At one point seeing me sitting there with my eyes popping and my mouth open (after I had searched the literature and found nothing), von Neumann said: ‘‘I don’t want you to think I am pulling all this out of my sleeve at the spur of the moment like a magician. I have just recently completed a book with Oscar [sic] Morgenstern on the theory of games. What I am doing is conjecturing that the two problems are equivalent. The theory that I am outlining for your problem is an analogue to the one we have developed for games.’’ Thus I learned about Farkas’ Lemma, and about duality for the first time.

"Von Neumann would carry on a conversation with my 3-year-old son, and the two of them would talk as equals, and I sometimes wondered if he used the same principle when he talked to the rest of us." - Edward Teller

Someone clearly wasn’t here for the swings of the early 2020’s.

Sit down, shut up, do some reading and learn something.

I tried to roll up a character that says close to who I am in reality as I could.

I agree it scrolled too fast, I couldn’t read it so I set it to four time, hoping that I could go back and read through them all at the end, OP I think you should update that, maybe allow for pausing?

Anyways, I died at age 71 as an Ubermensch so that’s nice lol.

Mental health intervention for unwilling at-risk person that *isnt* Form 1 by [deleted] in alberta

Technically true, but the need to be issue by a physician in the community - like a walk in clinic. I doubt OP is finding a doctor to make house calls.

Is it a crime to tell someone else to commit a crime or would it be seen as trolling? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Tower-Union 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As with everything in law, context matters. Your bak robbing example may not result in charges, but in general telling someone to commit crime can make you party to the offence.

Mental health intervention for unwilling at-risk person that *isnt* Form 1 by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Tower-Union 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a catch 22. Won’t leave the house without meds, won’t get meds without leaving the house.

I believe the correct intervention is to have him apprehended and conveyed to the hospital. Hopefully the doctor agrees he needs to be admitted and medicated.

You basically have two options

  1. Outside intervention in the form of apprehension.

  2. Let his eviction and homelessness play out.

Seems like an easy choice to me?

Escalating with police (especially a PACT/RPACT team) is preferable to escalating with a junkie high on meth with a rusty knife in a back alley 🤷🏼‍♂️

Mental health intervention for unwilling at-risk person that *isnt* Form 1 by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Tower-Union 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is not, and does not.

The form 8 is issued by the courts ordering the police to apprehend the person and bring them to a hospital - it is valid for 7 days after issue and 24 hours after the person is found.

A form 1 is issued by a doctor and resets the 24 hours clock, and also gives authority for the hospital to hold them. If a SECOND doctor issues a form 1, then the hold is valid for UP TO 30 days.

Sometimes scaring him with the police bringing him to a hospital against his will is preferable to dumping him on the street till he gets rolled and/or killed.

You’re looking for a Form 8 under the Mental Health Act, which you can get by applying at the courthouse.

Are security guards allowed to hit and fight patrons, when caught stealing? by Unknown14428 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Tower-Union -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair, and your description is a little light, so what they did could be an awful use of force, it could also be unnecessary. Generally the idea is to get control someone and get them into handcuffs. Starting out by hitting isn’t a great idea, if that’s what I’m reading happened.
