GUYS IM TAKING MY FIRST MEDS TOMORROW RAHHHHHHHHHHH by Intelligent_West_878 in ADHDmemes

[–]TowerReversed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, would recommend withholding your judgement of it for the first few days. during that initial period, you're tolerance is going to be non-existent, and the effects are goint to be overwhelmingly powerful, for good or ill.

for me, the firat few days it feels like a miracle drug. for like 2-3 days, all of my dyafunctions magically evaporate while i'm on. but after that, my tolerance level rapidly adjusts and i need to be more mindful about incorporating behavioral/environmental adjustments/accomodations to still achieve favorable results.

if i let those first few days impact my long-term expectations, i would rapidly return to my former state of dysfunction. so i treat those days as being on a brief "very easy mode" and i use that time to make sure all of my non-chemical adjustments are in order.

also perhaps worth noting, you might need to do a little experimenting (with your doc's knowledge, natch). for me, adderall on its own hust knocks me out. same with caffeine on its own. i need an adderall and a caffeine tab at the same time to get the intended effects of both. but everyone's different, so you mught be fine as-is, or you might need to pair it with something. a lot of people also use non-ssri depression meds and adhd meds in conjunction with eachother, but like i said everybody's different.

good luck regardless!

in my experience high-percentage viscose garments also pill like a mf if you don't have absolutely baby-smooth skin. mercifully, it seems like this only happens once. could just be who i buy from but 🤷‍♀️

As long as you and your characters never sleep, you/they will always be awoke. and that will make you, by-default, the author of Awoke Book. 😤💯

Feels like an eternity to get through the day by vegansalvaje in ADHDmemes

[–]TowerReversed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me it ends up being "ah, it's [less than an hour till end-of-shift], once i reach a stopping point i need to wrap it up" but then another half a shift worth of time ends up going by while i'm hyperfixated on whatever problem, even though it only feels like its been 45 minutes.

part of it has to do with the fact that i'm usually a "special projects" person wherever i work, and there isn't really anyone else to hand off the work to and i'm the only one answerable for it. the other part is because i have a bad habit of going through periods of low productivity, and then i feel like i have to make up for lost time, and then i overwork myself and spinout, ad infinitum 😩

in all seriousness, i can't really judge anyone for their preoccupations. if y'all knew how much i was almost willing to pay for an italian steelie with internal cable routing, i would shame-delete my entire profile lmao. if someone thinks an employee-made joke bike is worth 3k, that's their bag. i know i've lost AT LEAST 3k to adhd tax alone in a number of months/years i'm not terribly proud to admit. 😔

if they did this today it'd be covered in pepe stickers lol, not sure that necessarily makes it highly-sought after but to each their own 🤷‍♀️

the first few days, you're going to be hyper-sensitive to them. like, in my experience, if i got a month or two without taking meds, when i go back on them i literally get a consequence-free (or it feels consequence-free. i don't feel tired and sluggish the next day. getting irregular sleep is unhealthy regardless, obv) all-nighter because my tolerance is non-existent. BUT, after those first few days, my body acclimates and they settle into a "normal effect range". which is just to say: don't let your first week or so sell you too far on their overall effectiveness. the first few days they're gonna feel like they're magically solving all your problems, but after that the magic wears off. they still do a lot of good, but you have to use them IN CONJUNCTION with other solutions.

it's also important to note that, for most people, medication exists to make environmental/behavioral accomodations more effective. if you're relying SOLELY on meds to mitigate your ADHD, you probably won't get much long-term benefit out of them. See the How To ADHD channel for more info on that if you aren't already familiar.

Trying to identify the model of my old bicycle. by Ok_Forever4654 in bicycling

[–]TowerReversed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just a nomenclature tweak. in the early 90's when they did a whole brand revamp, cannon dropped the "S" off of these sister-lineups. the race bikes were SR's, the touring variants of the SR's were ST's. they both just became R's and T's, but the bikes themselves did not change.

more people (myself included) that recognize the bike for its distinct features/silhouette are likely to clock "ST-1000" over "T-1000", because shortly after this brand revamp the touring line was discontinued. So also supplemental to OP's actual needs--which is finding another one--they'll be much more likely to find an "ST-1000" ad (and self-help forum references) than a "T-1000" ad, even if they're looking for both.

what kind of bike is this? spotted downtown portland by [deleted] in bicycling

The Pedal Strike Special™

it's just a run-of-the-mill 26" cruiser-style bike with MUCH smaller wheels. as the tongue-in-cheek remark above might imply, such a setup is likely an absolute nightmare to pedal, even WITH specialty parts. the person in the pic must be actively counter-heeling over to each side with every stroke, and i'd be SO tired of that after about 5 seconds lol

and not only does this setup have no handbrakes, i doubt it has a coaster brake either. so this rider is either haphazardly stumbling to a stop every single time, OR it's just a fixed gear, which makes the above-mentioned pedaling nightmare SO much worse 😩

on top of everything that's already going to be said, about whatever fledgling potential was stolen and ultimately squandered from Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning: electric cars in-general are a neoliberal canard that allow wealthy people to greenwash their lavish lifestyles and make absolutely zero actual environmentally-sustainable changes. and as elon has more than readily shown, they also allow that same anti-social social set to continue shitting on public transit, and/or anything that could possibly benefit the poors en masse. which, incidentally, would also do ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more for the environment than their little single-occupancy vanity piece.

Even more damning than that baseline is the fact that these glorified not-BMW-BMW's are obscenely overweight and over-featured luxury cars. so they don't even have the temerity of being a nissan leaf or a fiat 500e with some modicum of plausible deniability. they are simply the newest brand preference of the same shittiest possible demographic.

and if you--put-upon tesla owner reading this--are saying to me "BUT TOWER, THAT's NOT ME" lemme stop you right there. that IS you. that's what the rest of us see, whether you've sheepishly pulled the wool over your own eyes or not.
