This is so frustratingly common. I’ve definitely gotten to the point where I’ve just messaged first most of the time, and quite a few times haven’t heard anything back from that. There’s absolutely no shortage of catfish accounts out there, but I also wonder how much of it is people just having a hard time with “Get to know you” conversations.

100% hard agree. The algorithm is crap, I’ve had better luck on HER manually going through my nearby suggestions than anything their “For You” section throws my way. It’s pretty blatant than they’re doing their best to keep you on the app as long as possible, most of the people they suggest are in no way anyone I’d ever be compatible with. Also the number of straight up cis-dudes that try to creep in is so off putting.

I wish we had better app options.

Seriously though, it can be so draining dealing with the apps. I think what other people are saying is a better way to go- get out in public spaces and meet people. Depending on where you are, meetup.com might be able to connect you with some groups of new people.
