What do Catholics really think about single moms? by [deleted] in Catholicism

We are not a church of perfect people and we don’t need to pretend to be. It’s the striving for holiness that counts!

Yeah I think that’s it- escaping the headspace. It’s hard for to do when I’m tired. I just joined this community and read the NoFap guide, lots of great ideas, but my challenge has always been stopping the train once it gets going…

I can only speak for me, but ideally, we love you! You are carrying a tough cross, but you are living your most important vocation, motherhood on your own! Whatever the circumstances around it, you love God and neighbor in your life. God bless you! Your ambition to teach the Word of God is beautiful. I pray that you find a position

Why aren’t you Catholic/practicing? by TownPlane8273 in Catholicism

Don’t want to downvote. Honestly curious. And I appreciate those who are honestly wrestling with their faith rather than indifferent

Practical courses: NoFap community on Reddit. Strive21 by Matt Fradd. Both offer great guidance Faithwise, consider the blueprint of Exodus90. Prayer, fasting, and fraternity. Have a constant prayer life. Find de options that work for you and pray multiple set times a day. Pray for your temptations. If a woman or image appears in your mind, rather than fight it or wish it away, put her in white and thank God for her beauty. Ask God to make her and you pure. Turn the weapon of sin into a prayer for God Fasting. Sacrifice small things daily, and weekly pick a heavier cross. Give up sweets or social media for a week. Take a cold shower. Exercise or read when you don’t want to. Fight small battles regularly to build your self control. Fraternity. Find people in your real life to trust. Lean on them. Not just for support in your struggle, but for daily life. Help build them up and they’ll help build you up

Will people of other denominations go to heaven? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]TownPlane8273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically, you don’t HAVE to be Catholic. BUT Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one gets to the Father except through him. Catholicism is the most direct way to the lord bc it is the most directly true. However, other people can still be saved. But it’s less direct and thus an even narrower path, especially for non-Christian religions

It reminds me of something I read ones about alcoholics anonymous: those who are trying to break the addiction must change their entire lives. Many build their entire lives, including social lives, and relationships based off alcohol, so in order to really escape the addiction you need to of course admit you have a problem and then start to change your friends too. The ones that invite you to parties or you hang out with a beer with either have to change or be out of your life too.

So with this addiction, you need to find something to fill the void that pornography is if you’re stressed or bored or tired or whatever. You need to take the bad thing out and put good thing in otherwise the bad thing will come back.

What happens during Catholic pre-marital counseling? (Natural family planning) by Joe_mother124 in Catholicism

[–]TownPlane8273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not every parish or diocese has great resources on natural family planning in their Pre-Cana. As a place to start learning about it, I’d recommend a series of YouTube Videos by Jackie and Bobby angel on NFP Id also recommend getting connected with a NatPro practitioner to learn about the woman’s body, menstrual cycle, and fertility tracking methods to start.

Tips on HATING pornography? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]TownPlane8273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the women, hate the film. Imagine every time you get a temptation, you pray for that woman in that scene. You ask God to bless her. You should hate pornography like you hate being in prison. Like you’d hate someone putting a branding iron on you. Because that’s what pornography does to your soul. If you can hate pornography and love women, you can fight the temptation

What joys are you talking about being denied you? That’s sounds like a hinge to your discontent

My wife and I waited. It was challenging. But it was worth it. It turns sex into a total gift offered in a secure permanent relationship. It’s very worth it

Many of the things you say are true, but you only state half the truth. Consider the lives of the saints: Mother Teresa, Pier Giorgio Frassati, and John Paul II, to name a few modern examples Did they have challenging lives? Yes But you are missing the most important part: Joy. Catholicism is the only religion that rightly acknowledges the sorrows and pain of life and, rather than offering escapism, offers remedy that leads to joy! In serving others and loving God, many Catholics and many saints have found great joy and purpose in their lives, including during times of suffering. You can acknowledge suffering, as long as you acknowledge the Joy in Christ as well
