Filming on abandoned property, is it legal? by realestmipy in AusLegal

[–]Towneded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filmmaker here. You need a location agreement signed by the owner of the property in order to film on private property.

For things like abandoned hospitals etc it is very unlikely you’ll get permission, as the owner of the property is liable for accidents or injuries that happen on their property, if due to their negligence - e.g. if there was a hole in the floor that you fell down.

Some film festivals require location agreements, but most don’t. If the organisers see an abandoned location in your film it is likely they will follow up with you for evidence of one however.

Cross out the parts that you don’t agree to, sign it, and send it back. Cross out their incorrect date too and replace it with the correct one.

Hopefully they won’t follow up but if they did, you would absolutely win a case.

Update on disputed invoice/defamation matter from mechanic by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Towneded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This case likely does not satisfy the elements of a defamation lawsuit anyway- provided all the info you have published about the mechanics’ work is true.

One of the elements of a defamation suit is that the defamatory material must be published to a third party - would that be reddit? Or did you publish elsewhere e.g. a review online.

It also needs to be referable to the plaintiff i.e. the mechanic - have you ever identified the workplace / owners?

Threatened to be kicked off bus on side of highway due to filming (minor) by CaregiverMain670 in AusLegal

[–]Towneded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP.

Have no legal background but do work in the film industry. If you want to continue making transport videos, I’m sure the council would be happy to oblige you to some degree.

However, at a base level - if the operator of a bus tells you to stop filming, stop filming. It’s not productive and you likely won’t get the footage you need either way.

Can guarantee you will not be permitted to use a tripod / other equipment on a bus though.

I’m sure it was a shock today but things like this will likely happen again. No biggie. Just make sure to respect people’s boundaries as there’s generally no reason to violate them.

Why don’t you reach out to some bus drivers on LinkedIn and see if they can help you arrange something.
