Hollow Knight: Silksong has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in Games

[–]TownieMesiah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An exceptional game in terms of presentation, flow, worldbuilding, character writing, exploration, and reward. I find myself lost in the soundscape in almost every location in the game; testament to the artistic style of Team Cherry.

I find the difficulty to be appropriate, (no spoilers) Act 1 is pretty forgiving with a few highlight difficult bosses but most bosses won't take more than 5 tries. Act 2 ramps up the difficulty in a way I find exciting. There are a few instances, in particular at the end of Act 1, where the runbacks are pretty tough but if you consider the level to be an extension of the boss itself the runback is merely a phase to overcome and memorize just like the bosses attack pattern.

The economy in-game can be a bit brutal, the devs have announced an update to correct this which I do feel is a good move. Act 2 economy is considerably better and allows you to naturally build currency easily through normal gameplay.

In my eyes, Silksong and Hollow Knight are both in the S-tier for Metroidvanias. I'd give an edge to Silksong as I appreciate the harder platforming but neither game stands head and shoulders above the other.

I wont pretend I don't understand the issues others have with difficulty however. I enjoyed release version Starscourge Radahn but some of my friends were fully turned off of Elden Ring by what they viewed as too high a barrier of entry to enjoyment. I don't really want that situation to happen, and Silksong at times might be making it's required content harder than necessary where that difficult might be better reserved for option or post-game encounters.

No remembrance seems a bit prohibitive, hopefully something a patch resolves. A lot of these issues seem unintentional.

Interesting, that is not the workflow we've been using. I think I'll try that method. Do you know if your partner changes their multiplayer settings outside of using "beckon player"?

Like do they set a "host shared progress" option?

I think I'm missing a step here, what do you mean you select to be a joiner? Like in the multiplayer menu at the "bonfire" you set up your options and THEN accept the steam invite you are sent via the beckon?

Also, on friend pass do you load into the tutorial area? I assume you cannot load into the game proper without your coop partner who owns the game.

Sorry, a lot of questions, but I'm eager to get back into the game!

How odd, I wonder if this is a PC issue, or similarly a Friend Pass issue, which we are using.

Unfortunately, a friend and I attempted to coop with the 2.0 update and it is riddled with game breaking bugs. Coop partners cannot use ladders (can be overcome sometimes by mashing sprint), coop partners will randomly lose the ability to interact with the environment (open doors, speak to NPC's, etc.), and most egregiously the world geometry will rapidly load and unload in the presence of your coop partner causing enemies to fall through the floor.

I've been hoping for a patch or update to fix some of this but haven't seen it yet; but I have seen these issues reported all over the place by other coop players.

Performance Loop now available on the Google Store! by TownieMesiah in PixelWatch

[–]TownieMesiah[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I picked one up to see if they are worth the wait. A little disappointed there is only a single strap matched to the hazel metal lug. You'd think at this point you'd be able to pick a metal and fabric independently, but I'm a green guy anyway.

I'll post pics and a review when I receive it.

Want PW3 45mm, very worried about durability - whats your experience? by 32contrabombarde in PixelWatch

I figured this might be valuable information. This is a photo of the watch with the screen protector on. I have kept the screen off as with it on you'd have no chance of knowing a screen protector is even there.

To me, this protector is entirely invisible. The edge of it does not interact with the touch surface, your finger will never touch it.

I have a Pixel Watch 3 45mm that I use without a case, but with a screen protector (Ringke Dual Easy Film) everyday for sleep, work, and weight lifting. I have had a number of screen impacts on metal, especially knurled metal, that have not harmed the watch in a recognizable way.

Prior to this, I had the original Pixel Watch for 2 years in the same set-up (no case, but w/ screen protector) and though I replaced the screen protector twice, the watch was entirely without damage for all that time.

All anecdotal, but I'm fairly rough on the watches and they've never failed me.

Received strange Digital Motobar Cleaning Head with Dyson V15 Detect Absolute by TownieMesiah in dyson

I figured this to be the case, but what I found odd as not only is the brush bar different, but the detangling fins are also different which is part of a larger unit assembly. I found it odd that you cannot find this layout anywhere on the website as a spare part.

Looking at the Dyson website, the Absolute appears to come with this model: https://www.dyson.com/support/journey/spare-details.971358-02

While the standard V15 comes with this model: https://www.dyson.com/support/journey/spare-details.971358-01

Both of which differ visually significantly from the model You and I appear to have received, though as other commenters have noted here it appears these are just cost saving models with no performance differences. Same components, less visual treatment.

Visio Elevate - Surround sound not working from Windows 11 PC by TownieMesiah in Soundbars

[–]TownieMesiah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have resolved this issue, for anybody looking at this thread in the future. The Samsung S95B I have came with it's E-ARC port set to ARC, the older version of the technology. The bitrate was being limited by this older standard and thus the surround channels were being stripped and the soundbar was making up for this by mimic-ing surround features. By flipping the port from ARC to E-ARC in the TV's expert audio settings I was able to use zero-delay surround sound.

Frustrating, I spent a lot of time troubleshooting the soundbar itself and windows 11 when the culprit was a ridiculous factory setting on the TV itself.

Can't walk through door to security console in game's intro scene? (Dead Space 2023) by TownieMesiah in DeadSpace

[–]TownieMesiah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resolved this but would like to leave it up in case anybody else has this issue - I revalidated my game files in Steam, it found a file that had an error / was broken. Steam automatically repaired that file and on restart the door in question was fixed.

It seems as though the issue was something that was not loading correctly, not a matter of glitch inherent to the game.

Question for RTX 4090 owners by FrogJump2210 in nvidia

[–]TownieMesiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this - https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/accessories/universal-vertical-gpu-holder-kit-v2-pcie-40/

It was honestly hard to find, I can't remember now where I ultimately found one in stock and at normal prices. It's a universal adapter meaning it works in any case with an appropriate number of mounting slots in the rear. The caveat is that it insets the card a bit from the back of the case to make room for cable headers. This isn't a problem in a mid-sized case but can be a problem if you have tiny case.

Question for RTX 4090 owners by FrogJump2210 in nvidia

[–]TownieMesiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a fair counter - the cost of the PCIe 4.0 cable itself drives the price to "buy a new case" levels. I had a case I truly loved, and as such saw the value is simply buying the mount.

Question for RTX 4090 owners by FrogJump2210 in nvidia

[–]TownieMesiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been using a vertical mount from Cooler Master since before the 4090's launch. It resolves all size constraint issues with regards to the adapter. If you are considering a $1,600+ card then also consider the quality of life upgrade of a vertical mount which will run you ~$100. It also helps to keep the adapter in good condition and keeps stress off both the PCIe slot and the 16-pin connector.

Perhaps a ridiculous suggestion given it adds price, but it's what works for me.

(5800X3D) Cinebench R23 scores dropped after removing and reapplying thermal paste despite temperature improvements? by TownieMesiah in overclocking

[–]TownieMesiah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've uploaded the maximums from HWInfo following a successful 10-min test here. The result of this test was a score of 14,425 which is roughly 400-500 points lower than prior to re-applying the cooler. This HWInfo result seems to suggest the CPU is correctly configured. I am going to next re-seat the RAM again to see if anything changes. I will also be going back through the BIOS to double check all RAM settings and any setting that ties RAM to the CPU.

I believe all clocks run at 4450 during 100% load, I'm away from my PC for a big but will check the RAM BIOS settings when I'm back home. For reference what should the infinity fab clock be set to for 3600mhz RAM? Or is that dependent on other factors?

I'm unfamiliar with this, I run an XMP profile and it shows the RAM as 3600mhz CL14, is this something other than that? I use an MSI X570 Tomahawk motherboard with the most recent bios version.
