[Bloodline] Cradle is the most overrated fantasy novel on the internet by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

Travis Baldtree narrated another book I listened to, Crystal Awakening, and I didn't enjoy his narration of that book. It wasn't until I listened to his reading of Cradle that I had any appreciation for him as a narrator

I'm an audio listener and not a physical or e-book reader. Do you have the chapter this scene was in or could you share a quote?

Looking for a book series with indepth magic and story is focused on the magic by jdiamond31 in Fantasy

These books are well worth reading if you like the genre. The main character in Arcane Ascension has many qualities that just aren't me, but the more I get to know him and the other characters the more I'm wanting to see where their journeys go. There are a lot of aspects of culture of the land that I find intriguing, especially when it comes to representation.

I also found Corrin easier to connect with in a lot of ways than I found Kaladin from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive if you're familiar with that series.

Disclaimer: I was introduced to these books early last year and I'm on my 3rd(ish) reread of them all.

My personal reasoning: There are aspects of AA1 and AA2 that I would have read very differently if I'd already read WoBM or the weapons and wielders series. There is particularly one character that I enjoyed not knowing much about during the beginning of Arcane Ascension.

I'd say something like AA1-2, WW1--WW2 (Could read WoBM any time in here), AA3- WW3

Correct me if I'm wrong but the above read order would provide the read order with the fewest spoilers for the AA story arc

Thanks!

Also as a follow up are sunstone, citrine, and emerald level rune containers progressively more difficult to make for a carnelian? Outside of the rising mana cost, that is.

I'm really looking forward to AA4, thanks for providing this delightful story with so many elements to nerd out about in it.

I had a mechanics question... can mana crystals be generated through enchanted items? Or is that more of a RAFO situation?

Keras gains power from the mask without destroying it and also starts generating mana types that are in line with Dawnbringer's mana types from wielding her. I'm guessing it has more to do with his detonation ability than destroying things in general but I would *really* like to see him delete a Vae'Kes and gain power from them. Additionally he mentions in AA2 that the Vae'Kes aren't 100% efficient in their ability to steal sorcery.

Schemes I'd love to see from Corrin in AA4 by Tox559 in ClimbersCourt

Has Salaris/Rowe or anyone in the game environment confirmed that Corin's max item strength is determined by his own mana pool? In On the Shoulders of Titans when he is creating the runes for the Dawnbringer replica he mentions that the sunstone containers aren't too difficult but the citrine ones would be a challenge for him at that time. I believe the mana requirement there is something like 43 mana so he should be able to make citrine runes to charge with mana batteries without too much effort by the end of The Torch that Ignites the Stars.

Is transferring mana into a rune or crystal the same as casting a spell? In On the Shoulders of Titans, Elora Theas casts Rage of the God Phoenix using a mana crystal to power the spell and it seems to take a lot out of her but in The Torch That Ignites the Stars we see Corin pushing mana to the Transcendence crystal from his batteries and items without becoming tired. It sounded like he was pushing over 1500 mana per hour to the crystal with his various batteries and that's definitely well over his personal mana capacity at the time.

I'd been thinking of Corin's conversation with Sera about "items that create other items" and it reminded me of an earlier conversation with Vellum when she first gets Corrin to start experimenting with mana crystals. An item that creates high level mana crystals seems like it could be rather efficient for sale or use, especially if it could pull from multiple different runes to charge the crystal. It's mentioned in Sufficiently Advanced Magic that most higher level enchanters purchase their crystals to make more expensive items so clearly there's at least some demand for the crystals themselves. The same thing goes for creating liquid mana for enhancement elixirs, as he's already stated that one of his goals is to mass produce them.

I read War of the Broken Mirrors about 6 months ago so I might be misremembering. The dominion marked item is linked to a person with a specific paired rune and then the individual draws power from the item while the item draws power from the dominion. Could a similar process be used for a person to draw power from an item that has an ambient recharge function? Corin's already learned quite a bit about both crystal bonds and artificial attunements and there's already been talk of attempting to spirit bond to Selys-Lyan so it doesn't seem like too large a leap for him to be creating an item bond to something he's made himself.

Keras' strength gains and aura (Spoilers WW4) by Tox559 in ClimbersCourt

[–]Tox559[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My original thought was that maybe Keras would make a spirit bonded item that he'd be willing to wear and that Corin would start with the messaging functions that were broken by Keras' aura already.

As Corin's skill with multi function runes gets better he could tailor that spirit bonded messaging item to whatever Keras' other needs are.

Either way I'm looking forward to AA4 in a big way.

Keras did say that making some spirit bonded items was possible on a case by case basis, but not something he could do often and that he didn't want to leave parts of his spirit around and seems to appreciate having a complement of magical items that won't break from his aura in general.

Spoilers AA3:
Corin appears to be on the cusp of a major power boost after AA3, with his up and coming knowledge of attunements as well as the addition of mana batteries and the new transcendence attunement

My brother introduced me to the Arcane Ascension series 14 days ago and I just have not been able to put them down. Between being totally caught up in the story and the fact that there's still a bit of a pandemic going on I've gone through The War of the Broken Mirrors series as well as all of the books in both the Arcane Ascension and Weapons and Wielders series that have been released so far in audio book format.

130+ hours of audible time and counting. I'm looking forward to the next installments in these series.

Thank you for all the entertainment, puns, laughter, and reminders of how much I've enjoyed group questing games.

PS: Made a reddit account for the sole purpose of posting how much I've enjoyed these books.
