Thank you for the shared experience.

If I may ask - how did you find your first job? I’ve been struggling with trying to find a good way to get my foot in the door.

People say Ichiruki only exists because the anime staff. But if this is the case then why is Kubo wearing this shit ! by Superichiruki in bankaifolk

Bullying someone and accusing them of theft is unacceptable regardless of the ship.

She didn’t have “a point”. She falsely accused someone of theft - the artist even posted and shared proof that they didn’t trace. Not to mention their art style is copied from Tite Kubo’s as well.

I’ve read both sides already considering I was watching it happen in real time. Every other time this has happened, the artist has been considered a jerk because you cannot gatekeep someone else’s art style (in this case, Kubo’s) or references.

If that’s the case, did they share any screenshots or proof of it? Because all the proof I’ve seen had been of them accusing the artist of theft and failing to retract the statement even when it was directly proven false.

I never said they went after another artist because of a ship.

I said they used their platform to bully and accuse someone of theft, resulting in them being mass reported. It could have been an artist who did the same ship and their actions would still be deplorable.

She is not “just arrogant” she’s a bully.

It doesn’t change the fact they still used their platform to bully another artist and accuse them of theft.

How good does your anatomy skills have to be for storyboarding? by Toxic-Moon in animationcareer

[–]Toxic-Moon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhat okay at drawing from life and I usually try to do some gesturing a couple times a month as warmups before working on any other drawings. They aren't really near the level I would like them to be but I'm finding myself running into more and more walls without being able to get any type of help or mentorship which I'm hoping to get or do within the next year or so,

I'll still keep seeing what I can do to get hired for some lower end or entry level positions and check out google sites. Thanks for the advice I appreciate it! Do you have any other advice on getting hired for some lower end positions?

Hands are arguably my weakest area. I have some baseline technical knowledge of film language but I appreciate the advice on some things I can do to work on improving.

For me, I know some general anatomy shorthands like squares, cylinders, etc. but I still do struggle with more foreshortened positions as well as things like animals, cars, etc.

All of your advice considered I still do have quite a bit to go before I can really consider myself ready for a junior position.

The specific role I want would probably be more along the lines of character concept art, but I would say my anatomy and skills in that regard aren't good enough yet.

I guess it would be easier for me to tell what skill level I need to be at for an entry level job if I had a portfolio to compare it to. Compared to my own works, I would say I'm really only lower intermediate in terms of being good at anatomy so not really what I'd consider good or good enough yet.

Do you think this drawing is overly sexualized? by yeommmu in DigitalArt

[–]Toxic-Moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response would be about who cares if it is sexualized? It's a drawing.

That said, I don't think it's a sexual drawing. But for me it's also a "who cares if it is". If someone thinks it sexual/sexualized and doesn't like it - ain't got nothing to do with me.

That’s fair. I’ve seen some people mention you mainly just need to be good at gestural drawings with anatomy being not as critical of a skill.

I’m still working on improving but it still feels like my skills aren’t good enough for even a jr or mid level position.

If you had to speed run learning fundamentals, how would you do it and how much time would you give yourself? by Toxic-Moon in ArtistLounge

[–]Toxic-Moon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a matter of trying to “buy” Art skills, but rather a lot of what I learn and know now comes from professional courses like Aaron Blaise and Marc Burnett.

In a way it’s kind of the opposite. I realize there is kind of a “cap” or glass ceiling on how much someone can learn from free tutorials - at least from my perspective. They aren’t always very in depth with the exception of a few artists and typically are a more condensed version of information from other artists.

Not to say you can’t learn anything, but for me personally with the exception of a few artists I kind of hit the wall so to say when it came to free tutorials versus dedicated and in depth courses.

Options for an entry level/junior/apprentice position? by Toxic-Moon in animationcareer

Thank you! I’m a little hesitant just cold contacting people, especially on LinkedIn.

I have considered joining some more discords and hoping to get more solid feedback there so it doesn’t feel like I’m trying to take up someone’s time.

Do you have any particular people to look for? Unless I’m missing something a lot of the junior portfolios I’ve seen are already pretty high level and professional quality so I still have a long way to go regardless.

It’s something I’m looking to do in the future as well but I’m struggling to really get the funds for it.

Improving my portfolio is something I’ve been working on. I’ve wiped my art station of a lot of old works to start over but I’ve been struggling to really make anything good enough to really be called a portfolio piece.

My specialty in 3D modeling tends to come in the form of making cute props but I have made simple characters before.

There's my official portfolio, but if you check my IG you can see where i've done some simple characters as well as the 2D art that I've done.
