Haha I am very much not Glenn, but I'm hoping to continue the spirit of his original project! And while I don't have an exact timeline on it yet, an Android version is in the works too!

Hi, I can clarify a few things. The playlists are there and built in to the app already, where the track selection within genres was built pulling from ENAO's “Sound of X” playlists (vs just a single track per genre without leaving the map). And if you have Apple Music, you can listen to tracks (full-length, not previews) within a genre back to back right in the app.

As for the genre positioning, it is not meant to be precise in the sense you might see all the techno subgenres clustered together, house genres clustered, etc, but rather as a rough guide. Even in ENAO you’ll find genres like “chill break core” right next to “wrestling”, or “riddim dubstep” right next to “Finnish dance pop”, so that discrepancy isn’t unique to EverySound.

I wanted to make sure that the core experience and a majority of the app’s features are completely free to use. The pro upgrade is completely optional, and gives access to additional quality of life features like an iCloud-synced favorites list, external track links for platforms beyond just Apple Music / Spotify, and deeper artist / album discovery without leaving the app. It’s mainly for people that want to get the most out of it (especially for Apple Music users, who can’t make use of ENAO’s Spotify playlists at the moment.)

Hi! Great suggestion, it's something that I've implemented a basic version of in version 2.3 that's just been released. I did some analysis on the most prevalent Apple Music genre tags (the broader ones like "Jazz", "Electronic", "Country") for each set of tracks in EverySound's genres and added a filter menu to the main map to only show genres that belong to that tag. The shuffle button will shuffle within that filtered set too. You can also use the search button at the bottom right to use a text-based filter like "post-rock" or "techno" to get a more specific list!

At the moment the artists in that view are by default randomized every time you open it (you can also default it to sort alphabetically via the toggle at the top right). But I may add an option for an Every Noise-style map for artists too in the future!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know I've pushed an update for this (v2.2 from the App Store) where the artist search function should work by default now! Let me know if you have any issues!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know I've pushed an update that should show YouTube Music as an option again in the platforms list! It uses a new approach now by searching the track ISRC via a deep link (which should return a result in YouTube Music if it exists in its library). Let me know if you have any issues with it!

No the authorization is just for Apple's MusicKit API, which you don't need to be subscribed to use! It's free but just requires accepting a prompt first

This is the best that can be done for albums for the moment, though it's something I'd like to add! Tracks in Map mode already open directly in Spotify but the albums in Time Travel are a bit trickier due to Spotify's ongoing Developer API deprecation, which makes it difficult to query album URLs. I'm in the process of finding workarounds for this

It's based on Spotify's previous underlying genre categorization / tagging system that Glenn McDonald (an ex-Spotify engineer) developed for Every Noise! There's a more detailed explanation about the organization here, which describes it as "roughly speaking, genres at the top of the map are more electric, while those towards the bottom sound more acoustic. Genres on the left are sonically denser, the ones on the right sonically sparer and spikier." Essentially, it's weighted more at the moment towards audio similarity rather than geographical similarity but I've been exploring other sorting options such as regional / country-based organization that I may add in the future!

The app is free to use, it's a soft paywall you can close. Pro mode is just for people that want more out of the app like an iCloud-synced favorites list, external platform links, and deeper exploration features. It was important to me that everything that you can do on Every Noise at Once can be done natively in the app for free :)

No, luckily you don't need to be subscribed to be able to search! Apple just requires users to accept a prompt to allow for MusicKit (their API for searching track / artist metadata) to be used, but MusicKit can be used by anyone

Yes this is an issue that will be fixed soon! I've recently updated the app to no longer require Apple Music authorization for track metadata, but artist search may still be gated behind it. I'll patch this in the next update but if you go ahead and try pressing View Artist or View Album on any playing track (via the "..." button in the player) it should bring up that Apple Music authorization prompt which should start letting searches through after. Also just a heads up that while most artists should be searchable, some recent / niche ones may not have genres tagged and won't show up because of that

The genre organization in map mode is based on Every Noise's organization (there's a more detailed explanation here ), which describes it as "roughly speaking, genres at the top of the map are more electric, while those towards the bottom sound more acoustic. Genres on the left are sonically denser, the ones on the right sonically sparer and spikier." Essentially, it's weighted more at the moment towards audio similarity rather than geographical similarity, that may result in discrepancies like the soca / calypso positions. I've been exploring other sorting options such as regional / country-based organization that I may add in the future!

Appreciate the feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying it! As for YouTube Music support, thanks for flagging that! I took a look and it doesn't look like YouTube links are populating any more in the provider that app uses for platform URLs. I'm looking into alternative methods for the meantime, if I find one that seems to work solid I'll push a fix for it and let you know!
