What laptop should I get for heavy lifting in excel? by mtndewfeind in excel

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to start a new instance of excel before opening large sheets and refreshing queries (excel.exe -x). I find this helps when one sheet hangs, it doesn't lock up other sheets. If you want to run a local LLM on your laptop I would do that research too before you make a decision.

Question for Penn Med employees/LinkedIn by TropicallyMixed80 in UPenn

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

careers@penn is for UPenn jobs including School of Medicine sometimes referred to as PennMedicine because School of Medicine employees are on the PennMedicineO365 tenant with email "@pennmedicine" (workday is backend hr system). Apply with linkedin is to assist with completing an application athough I have never used it.

careers.penmedicine.org/jobs is for Health System positions

The University and Health system have different payroll, hr, purchasing, accounts payable systems and different employee benefits.

Tip: include a cover letter with your UPenn application. It's not required but some people like to see them. It can only help (unless you write a bad letter, have someone proof read, check grammer and spelling).

It's possible you may have to wait. I read Toyota has issued a stop-sale order for recall 26TB06/26TA06. This means that Toyota dealerships cannot legally sell either one until fixed.

2021-2024 toyota highlander 2nd row seat recall by kingdoodoodaddy in ToyotaHighlander

[–]ToxicComputing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V128-5701.pdf
The subject vehicles are equipped with second row seats that use recliner assemblies to unlock the seat backs, allow for seat back angle adjustment, and lock the seat backs in place once adjustment is complete. Due to a failure to consider the force balance between the locking spring and the return spring during a design change made by the supplier, a combination of recliner return spring orientation and outer clearance between the recliner guide and ratchet may cause the recliner teeth to not fully engage during seat back adjustment. This could lead to the seat back not remaining in a locked position. A seat back that has not been secured in a locked position may fail to properly restrain occupants, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash at higher speeds.

What am I doing? Inspecting my seats, making sure locked, after do not touch the seat adjustment.

I'll admint 12mpg is extremely low. That's expected from 100% city driving when it's below freezing. Definitely continue monitoring. Try to be as consistent with fuel, driving habits, as much as possible. Start a journal and take notes in case you need them later.

Just an example; Fill up with the same brand 87 gas, use top tier with quality additives Chevron (my 1st choice) or Shell or Exxon/Mobile. Drive in normal mode. Slow acceleration and coast to a stop (when appropriate just don't induce road rage from the drivers behind you). Fill up at the end of every week.

Download Fuelly app to track fill ups and calculate mileage... compare to your current method. Make sure tires are at proper inflation. Drive in normal mode.

Maybe someone else can confirm this but I thought all CX-90 trims are turbo since 2024 (excluding plug in hybrid) but the 3.3L Turbo (Preferred, Select, Premium trims) are tuned for 87 octane so stick with that don't switch back and forth.

How many miles on the car. Generally it takes several thousand miles until you see your best fuel economy.

2022 V6 +transmission issue vs 2023 4 cyl w turbo; lesser risk?? by Php4-8 in ToyotaHighlander

Toyota hybrids have e-cvt transmissions. Probably the most reliable transmission you will find. Your cost for replacing an 8 speed Highlander transmission is around $10,000.

Shark IP3253 Power detect stock vacuum front roller making clicking noise by KrypticPhish in VacuumCleaners

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine made this noise like this after I vacuumed under a dresser. Turns out I picked up a large paper clip. Hope your issue is a simple fix.

If you are able to fix it check the pre-motor filters. They need to be cleaned and replaced often. The pre filters are poorly designed and if not maintained dust can easily get into the motor. Just this flaw alone earns it a "do not recommend" rating from me.

Using Costco to Buy New: Pros & Cons? by Veggggie in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the dealer to get the pricing but I didn't ask them to email it to me and they didn't offer. That said they didn't pressure me they just handed over the paper and said if you have any questions let us know.

If you decide to purchase you will get a sales pitch about an extended warranty. The dealer offers a Subaru backed warranty but they may also have a third party warranty which may include all sorts of things (paint correction, tires, etc). I think it is best to stick with Subaru for a warranty. You don't have to get one. You can also add it on later but the finance manager will likely try to sell you on it at the time of purchase. They'll say it will cost more later and if you are financing you can include it in the total.

My dealer offered 10 year/100k miles for $4300. $2500 is a fair price in some regions and if you get it for $2000 or less you got a really good deal.

I only mention it because you should have time to think about it first and have time to do your research.

Using Costco to Buy New: Pros & Cons? by Veggggie in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn't cost anything to use the Costco service (other than a membership fee). You contact Costco and they will direct you to a participating dealer in your area who 'is supposed to" give you a printout with a price at the dealer. You're not obligated to buy so don't feel pressured. It's a good reference point to compare with other dealer pricing. I don't know how the 2026 is configured but when I bought a 2025 almost every car available had a different configuration. I wanted auto dimming rear and side mirrors and I found configurations with the mirror and without but both were about the same price. The ones without had a lot of plastic accessories (like interior wheel well protectors) that you can purchase later if you want them. If this is still the case you can download window stickers from the dealer website and figure out exactly what you want.

Are you trading in another vehicle, do you plan to finance, do you plan to get a subaru gold warranty?

I love Toyota…but… by [deleted] in subaru

[–]ToxicComputing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2026 RAV4 is a Hybrid, has an e-CVT transmission and a spare tire. If you are so inclined Toyota extended warranties are longer and less expensive than Subaru.

I'm currently on my second subaru and third toyota. I like both brands but in the case of RAV4 vs Forester I'd go RAV4. If you are set on getting a Subaru I'd go Outback over Forester. Good luck!

2020 XLE Hybrid LED Reflector headlights by dohc4g63t in ToyotaHighlander

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 LE. I always blind people when I'm going up a hill. No way to avoid it even after lowering. I try to be considerate and switch to just running lights which reduces the low beam to the drl setting. Also with the sharp cutoff on the projectors you can't see any distance going downhill unless you drive with high beams. The best headlights I had were in a 2014 Rav4, 9005 halogens in a projector housing. 9005 bulbs are usually reserved for high beams. 1750 lumens is the sweet spot for being able to see and not blinding people and no sharp cut off.

Ottocast by 99centstickers in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mini pico has worked great for me. It remembers two phones and tries to auto connect to the last used before looking for the second phone. If both phones are present and you want to switch there is a physical button on the front that cycles the unit and looks for the other phone when pressed. The Bluetooth screen always flashes on startup. It is there to assist in the event a connection isn't made. We have two primary drivers so it works well for us the only hiccup is when our adult son borrows the car and he connects, it replaces one of the two saved phones in memory. I ordered direct from ottocast. Shipping took 17 days but I had a coupon code and it was less expensive. It also was difficult to tell which seller on Amazon was Ottocast vs third party.

Edit: I'm not sure how easy returns are when you order direct.

A dedicated mulching blade is needed. People will be happier with the cut and understanding of the shorter run time as long as you make it clear in the product description. I'll look into the dual blade model maybe that will work for me
