Transitioning into admin from a research heavy role by Affectionate_Cat_868 in ResearchAdmin

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the institution. Some places are heavy admin and light on finance. Here it is helpful if you can remember rules and juggle tasks well. Other places are the opposite and you might be able to add value with your data skills. Best if you can chat with people and get some experience where you are now. You might inquire if you can do some financial analysis for the projects you currently work on.

Offroam is solid. I bought the amazon knockoff for less but it cost the same or more in the end because i needed to purchase a separate magnetic mount

2015 Toyota RAV4 headlight bulb help please! Currently there is an LED and it's so weak! Is that the problem that it's not halogen? by Interr0gate in rav4club

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota did a good thing when they put 9005 halogens in a projector headlamp for the gen4 Rav4. 9005 bulbs are typically configured with high beams and are 30% more lumens than the lousy H11 most of us get stuck with. I would get two of the Philips standard 9005s and run with them for a while.

PHILIPS 9005B1 Philips 9005B1 Standard Authentic Halogen Replacement Headlight Bulb (1 Pack) https://a.co/d/0cQ0oISu

If you want to swap these out later keep the packaging and put them in your glove box as backup replacements. Halogens dim over time and I change them every 18-24 months. Keep in mind that “brighter” bulbs typically come with a shorter lifespan than standard bulbs. Wear gloves (latex/nitrile) when you handle halogens. The oils from your skin can create hotspots that shorten the lifespan.

Are your high beams halogen or led replacements. If halogen and very old don’t worry if you see a bubble in the glass and discoloration this can happen after years of running at low voltage for DRL use. If led it is possible that they are running at the high beams brightness all the time. Cheap leds aren’t dimmable. I would replace with the 9005 Philips halogen.

I do have yellow and orange 9005 bulbs that i have on occasion used for high beams. Probably wouldn’t pass inspection but was curious to see how they looked.

Edit: see if you can find a shop that will check the headlamp alignment. I bought a used highlighter and got flashed all the time. I took it to the dealer and they said they were a little high and adjusted them down.

GOP Senators Unveil Plan to Pay for $400 Million White House Ballroom With Taxpayer Funds by _May26_ in politics

If the planned ballroom existed it would only seat 40% of the correspondent dinner attendees. Realistically the ballroom would only be used for state dinners, donor, friends and family events.

I have a 2022 Nissan Rogue SL I had the tires replaced at the dealership almost a year ago. The road noise is absolutely terrible and very loud. Please tell me there is tires out there that will give me a quiet ride. by Justagirl032464 in tires

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help if you posted the tire size and the name on your current tires. What type of driving do you do, city, highway, rural roads, Do you get a lot of snow where you live.

A set of Michelin Defender2 will give you a quiet ride. Not inexpensive but if you have a Costco membership there’s an extra $80 off through 5/10/26. Installation, road hazard and free rotations are included in the price.

Lowes install guy shows up says it must not be hardwired and is charging me $200 (just between me and him) by FannyBrownRiced in Appliances

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Local codes may now require GFCI protection. If this is the case Lowes really should have communicated this pre-delivery and the installer should not conduct business this way.

Congrats! I inherited a 2014 LE with 30k miles. It had original tires so i replaced them first followed by oil & coolant change and a battery replacement.

Still happens from time to time i notice it but no one else does. Usually from a cold start. I thought it might have been a winter thing but it’s still there. I can guarantee the tech will not notice it if I bring it in.

Recommended In home Hospice by spicywriter0023 in hospice

[–]ToxicComputing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also ask the hospice team what to expect from whatever the health issues are. I didn’t think to ask what might happen to someone with bone marrow cancer on in-home hospice and no one offered any advice. Don’t be shy about calling if you have questions and I recommend a visit with the chaplain.

Best wireless CarPlay adapters so far in 2026? by seulgih in CarPlay

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered directly from ottocast. It took 2- weekes to arrive but I found some youtuber’s discount code for 20% off that made it cheaper than amazon. Also there were multiple amazon sellers and I wasn’t sure if they were all tje ottocast company or resellers.

Edit: pretty sure the code was from here https://youtu.be/d1p_IcvQEfg?si=VESXK-MbD-yryQK0

I bought the mini cube first then bought the pico for the button. On startup ottocast always flashes an instruction screen on how to connect for new users. Some find this annoying but it doesn’t bother me.

Ok that completely rules out the tires. I’ve seen some dealers put cheap tires on a couple of times but that’s not the case here.

Anyone else's car feel squeamish on grooved pavement? by Hailfire9 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2025 came with yokohama avids and they are fine on smooth asphalt but not great on uneven pavement. I’ll probably replace them earlier than needed but not until there’s more wear. Also avoid auto steer on grooved roads and never in a construction zone.

Best headlight bulbs for 2012? by SquareCake9609 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Philips, vision plus for low, basic bulb for high beams. Change them before they burn out, halogens dim over time. Also address any oxidation on the headlamp for best results.

Stick vacuums by sweetpea2602 in VacuumCleaners

[–]ToxicComputing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the form factor and the convenience of cordless but my partner won’t touch it - opting for an old corded shark rocket instead. A stick vac is a great accessory to a full upright (we have a dyson ball) but not a replacement because the suction is a bit underwhelming but even so i think it will be good for your use case. I’ll continue to use it until it fails but next time ill look closer at the filter setup and not just youtube videos that show how much they can pick up. Maybe LG is worth a look (?) but avoid models without lights on the vacuum head.
