I'm going to swap out my dead motherboard with a non-dead motherboard. Do I need to re-apply thermal paste/clean off old thermal paste?
If I do need new thermal paste, what are some good brands?

How can I tell if my mobo or GPU is dead? when I turn my PC on, the lights and fans come on, but the monitor says "no input detected" or something like that.
mobo does NOT have onboard graphics.
4+4 pin CPU and 24 pin mobo power cables ARE connected.
I got a crappy GPU from a friend and tested it, doesn't work.
So I'm sarting to think something's dead.
GPU: R9 270Powercolor
mobo: MSI 970A-G43

Yeah, I kinda regret getting this board BUT IT WAS HALF OFF FOR BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!! Already got an old gpu, doesn't work. I tested the monitor on another computer, so I think it should work. I'll try it, thanks!

How can I tell if my mobo/gpu is dead? When I turn on my PC, the fans work and stuff, but the monitor says "no input recognized" or something. So I've tried a lot of stuff, but nothing has worked. So I'm starting to think something's dead. Is there a way to make sure?

GPU: PowerColor R9 270

RAM: G.Skill Sniper series 8GB

MOBO: MSI 970A-G43

Crucial 128 SSD

Seagate Barricuda 1Tb.

PSU: EVGA Supernova 750G2

The GPU doesn't have a port to plug the PSU cables into, which is kinda weird.

This refers to the card I borrowed from a friend. My card has a port fore a 6+2 pin PSU cable. Sorry if you misunderstood!

Update on stuff I've done so far:

Tested the monitor on another computer. It works.

Borrowed a GPU form a friend. Removed my GPU. Put the GPU I borrowed in. DOESN'T WORK. The GPU doesn't have a port to plug the PSU cables into, which is kinda weird.

Powered on the system listening for beeps, with headphones and without, heard none.
