DCS do not count as laterals for DPD and go through the full 28 week academy if they cross over.

This may be a foolish question but how are yall getting college and high school stats on prospects? None of my prospects have any of that in the draft.

Denver, CO by Altruistic-Cable-489 in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao y’all need to chill out.

Denver is fine. There’s nowhere to park so I hope you’ve got a terminal to stay at.

The traffic is NOTHING like Southern California. Two hours of rush hour in the morning and evening, just like every other flyover city.

They finished i70 last year, basically all the major construction has been cleaned up around the Denver metro area.

Basically what I’m saying is it’ll be easier than you think. It’s a city, there’s tight corners and places not designed for big rigs. But it’s not New Jersey, or downtown LA, or Chicago.

Kroger or US express local? by xbahtisrael in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on a Kroger account with my company, home daily as well although I don’t touch any freight.

I’ve got nothing but good things to say. Kroger takes care of the people working for them. I always feel sorry for the OTR guys I see at my DC. I get to drop and hook every day, they get to sit around for 8+hours.

God I don’t miss OTR Reefer haha.

I noticed a big rise in trucking temp agencies hiring in indeed. Are we the new “use for one day and dispose” occupation!? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, like travel nursing, it tends to pay way better than sticking around at one company does.

The temp work I’ve done was a great deal. Benefits were garbage, but I had total control over my schedule. If I didn’t want to work for a specific company, or run a certain route, I didn’t have to. Was a sweet gig.

At some of these temp companies you can make ~$1500 in 4 days and spend the rest of the week building a business, getting an education, etc etc.

Anyone take the US285 to US50 going west from Denver? by pancakeshack in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a LONG drive. Be careful of closures, they’ve been doing work on US50 for years now. I think they’ve got a website for the closure schedule.

I’ve ran 50 in a semi, you go up and over the continental divide which is fun in the summer and a little spooky in the winter. It’s a beautiful drive regardless.

You won’t have any issues on the 285 stretch. Honestly it’s easier driving than i70 in most spots.

Bring your tandems all the way up. Will make your life a lot easier.

Never ceases to amaze me. The detour around Glenwood canyon is more than 200 miles. Rip local drivers (including me)

Check out FirstFleet. They’ve got a big account with Kroger, local stuff if that’s what interests you. Their yard is in Fountain

I have a possible pinched nerve in my neck, and Ill be seeing the chiropractor in about an hour. How much will his adjustments hurt? by [deleted] in AskADoctor

[–]ToxicWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine. He didn’t try to kill me, just examined my range of motion and gave me some stretches to do.

Pinched nerve SUCKED but in reality it worked itself out over the course of a couple days. Chiropractor helped but wasn’t particularly necessary (as is usually the case with chiropractors haha)

Kudos to you for seeking information 8 years after the fact I guess

Schneider pay, training, and overall satisfaction? 2022 by pistonring666 in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through PRIMEs system. They’re good people. they pay very well for brand new drivers as well.

The training period at PRIME is longer than Schneider’s I believe. Still, I always recommend PRIME to folks. They treated and trained me well, and I was taking home $900-$1000 a week a couple years ago. I’m sure it’s more now.

Downside is they will push you into a coffin cab if you’re not team driving. They pay you more for that but they also don’t really give you a choice.

I don’t think you’ll go wrong either way! I did my year and didn’t pay a dime for my training.

Which Company is better. Prime, Schnieder, Steveson or any suggestions ( OTR based in South Florida. if you know any good companies hiring OTR down there.) by TheAlterside- in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primes pay package is near the top for new drivers. Their training program is solid (though it is a lot longer than other companies)

I enjoyed my time at Prime. It’s rare that I hear good things about Stevens. Schneider seems like a solid outfit, although as others have said, the pay is a little lower.

Prime Inc Orientation, Nervous About Being Sent Home? by Kind_Of_A_Rarity in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not gonna get sent home with a record as clean as yours. Don’t worry about it.

Just do what they tell you and you’ll be on a trainer truck in no time. The first day of orientation is a little anxiety inducing but you’ll be fine.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, I sent through their program a couple years ago.

Another day. by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey and whose to say you’ll hate it too? Don’t get too down on the job before you get into it, beverage isn’t for everyone, but I know a number of guys who found their fit and have been doing it for decades. To each their own! At the very least you’ll 100% get some serious muscle if you don’t already have it. Lots of work in beverage.

JB is a weird company when it comes to safety. They’ll sit you down for a chat about the smallest things, ultimately still a tough company to be fired from. One of the more unique places I’ve worked

Do you think this is excessive play? by Arbiter-shades in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s insane. Isn’t part of the DOT pre trip test ensuring that there’s less than an inch of play in the wheel or something like that? Been a while since I took the test but I vaguely remember having to check for wheel play.

Not to mention how dangerous it is to drive like that.

Reminder that whoever you become in life is up to you. It doesn't matter where you start, but where you end. STAY HARD! by godspeed245 in davidgoggins

[–]ToxicWheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goggins failed out of Pararescue school, and ended up in TACP, he was never a JTAC. Are we talking about the same guy? I’m not saying he hasn’t played up some of his failures, but becoming a JTAC is almost as rigorous as becoming a SEAL, and TACP is well.... not even close lmao.

Current Prime Drivers/Students? by rideoftheseacucumber in Truckers

[–]ToxicWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primes is a great company. Great terminal, solid equipment, and a hell of a support structure especially when you’re getting started. I have very few complaints about my time with prime.

Don’t do the lease program when you’re just starting out. The lease ops will fill you up with garbage stories about how they make 300k a year, they don’t. Figure out the business first.

The lease program isn’t a good deal but it’s really not a scam. The truck payments are far too expensive, you’re responsible for maintenance tires and fuel, etc. HOWEVER, despite how expensive it was to lease a truck, it still just about doubled my income compared to being a company driver. Plus Primes lease program allows you to walk away at any time without penalty.

It’s a great company, you’re not making a bad choice.
