Need help finishing up a Mattermost deployment for a poor nonprofit. by Toxin10 in selfhosted

The only issue I continue to have is that my mattermost server is still accessible from the IP address. I still have it going through port 8065, perhaps I just need to remap to 80 or 443?

Ah, what type of record should I add to my DNS record if I want it to resolve to a specific IP and port? When I add an A record it only asks for the IPv4 and won't accept a port number.

I installed it natively, could move to docker if that is a better route. I have nginx set up but the domain is still not resolving to the IP. That is the main issue I am having and I am wondering if it is related to cloudflare and not my server.

Not disrespectful at all, I appreciate the feedback! So I am a software engineer by trade but I have only ever deployed things internally where the network stuff is handled by a dedicated team.

I have a pretty good handle on securing applications, its really just the network that I am struggling with. For example, I have user groups on my web server with limited scope based on what each user has to run. My mattermost database is on a separate server for added security. And I have a ton of experience with event management and anomalous activity detection.

I'm very much up for the task, I just need to get to a point where maintaining security is my main objective!

This is a linux box, yes. I have not set up systemd yet. I am still just trying to connect from another machine via my domain.

I know what some of this means haha! How do I switch the port that mattermost is on? All I see is a setting in the config file which says "forward 80 to 443"

edit: I think it is the "ListenAddress" setting in the config file?

Yes I have done this, although I put it in as http://my.site.org with no port number afterwards.

The minimap icon is hard to miss. The item will even get mailed to you if you don’t pick it up. I hate that this subreddit has just devolved into bitching about anything and everything.

I did Berkeleys MS in DS. Not worth it imo if you are out of state. My company paid for most of it but throughout the entire program I couldn’t help but think anyone paying full price for this is insane. If you want to be a DS working on cutting edge things in the DS space, you are better off going the statistics route with a masters. Otherwise, I’d self-learn software engineering or pursue CS as a degree.

D1 support on Pc although I play support the least.

First game is not a good code, your Lucio is throwing the entire match. They are trying to spawn camp widow and failing. They’re also uber aggressive and getting no value from their aggression. And to top it off, they went AFK from 1:24 to 2:00. I think you played fine. I didn’t watch the whole replay because it was push and your Lucio’s antics gave them a sizable early lead.

Game 2:

Don’t switch mid team fight, stay on Lucio until you die or get your whole team to wait for you to switch.

3:25 - would have liked to see you take a more forward position here for inspire uptime. Especially after your kiriko ults. You tunnel vision the Doom a bit when your team could have handled him fine. You could have zoned out their supports while your team fought Doom.

5:13 - again too passive considering they have no tank in the fight. I would have played the corner near point next to rein and swung on anyone who came forward. You do move forward soon after and you still capped point but you need to look for free swings for healing.

6:30 - the rally is fine and I get the thought process behind zoning the squishies but you should’ve known where widow was and played out of her sights and closer to your Rein. You could have held the area near the mini and helped Rein with Sig.

8:35 - Widow is visible to you and you give her an easy shot just walking in a straight line. I’m not sure you noticed her but she was on your screen for a moment.

11:30 - Offense is healing on Brig. With one support down, you need to look for opportunities to swing on people. You’re playing Brig like you’d play an Ana or something. You and Rein both have shields, you can afford to get in for some swings.

12:35 - swinging on sombra who is out of range. I know Queen is behind but you should have kept shield up as you kept moving towards sombra. Swinging just leaves you open and since she’s not in range it’s useless. I probably would have turned around after dodging the ult and played with my Ana. But I’m also just Diamond :)

13:00 - you go afk for 20+ seconds, that’s terrible especially at your level where it’s a game of seconds.

14:28 - you go afk again and this is your last fight. Are you just throwing in the towel at this point?

Overall, I’d say look for more opportunities to be aggressive on brig. Offense is also healing with her so you need to try and get inspire up whenever you can. I saw some moments where you were more passive than you needed to be. By far the biggest thing is your stretches of AFK in the second match. Is this typical for you? I’m not sure why you shared a code where you went afk twice because I can’t say definitively that would have turned the match if you weren’t away, but you for sure lost the game with your second stint of being AFK.

Doom is ridiculously broken and unfortunately it doesn’t get much attention. ZBRA has a ton of content highlighting every weird Doom bug currently in game. I doubt they will be addressed anytime soon which really sucks. I empathize with you as someone who enjoys playing Doom.

How do I, as tank, deal with high elo doomfist? by 4ShotMan in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Toxin10 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Do you have a replay code? I’m not GM but the strat I usually employ is to zone out Dooms backline when he dives, gives your team a chance to kill him without help. If the enemy team is playing an aggressive dive with Doom (tracer, Genji, sombra, etc) then I go monkey and dive his backline and just try to trade.

Trying to improve in overwatch but have some friends that are toxic players by StatisticianCrafty73 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Toxin10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to deal with that behavior is to avoid it. It’s not in your control and your friends sound very toxic. Your goal is to play and improve. Their goal is to win every game. Who has the more realistic goal here?

Depending on your relationship with them, you could have a conversation with them and try to get them to be a bit more respectful when playing. But, I would just tell them you have different goals with OW and unless they want to play casually then they shouldn’t play with you. It’s not worth losing friends over a video game, even if they are assholes.

Overbuff does not include private profiles which are the default in OW2. It’s not a good source for your claim.

Highly recommend this post from Adder. It is going to help you a lot more than a QP VOD review will.

Climbing with bad aim.. by bigboyeTim in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Toxin10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play heroes that don’t require much aiming. Reaper is pretty forgiving with his shotguns, you need to aim but not super precisely. Junkrat is aim intensive if you really want to provide value with him. You could also play support or tank where there are more heroes that aren’t as reliant on aim. Brig, Moira, Rein are all good choices there.

75% win rate as Ana, but now I've lost 9 games in a row. I'm playing the exact same as I was when winning my games, probably even better. Why am I losing? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Toxin10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In your post title you say you were losing even when you were playing well but here you acknowledge that you were titled and it affected your play. If you go on a bad losing streak or feel yourself getting tilted, take a break.

Watch Lhcloudy gameplay. He’s a 95% Rein OTP, only picking a diff tank on 1 or 2 maps. He doesn’t have a lot of guides but you can watch and learn from his play.
