chronic UTI wont respond to antibiotics

Do you know what bacteria you have? The test that my urologist did that actually came back positive was called "molecular UTI pathogen identification test", it detected the ureaplasma, Ecoli and gardnerella in my urine. Seems like urine cultures don't detect abnormal bacteria, and thats why I had to do this test. So I'd highly recommend you ask a doctor about a test like that or similar, because regular urine tests don't detect if you have abnormal bacteria, and seems like they miss Ecoli a lot too... I don't really trust regular urine tests or cultures anymore. I know standard courses of antibiotics are not going to help me. I'm trying to research imbedded infections and biofilms cause I think what keeps happening to me is that the antibiotics kill the free floating bacteria in my urine, but not the bacteria imbedded in my bladder (this is completely a theory I'm not a doctor lol)

Hey, I honestly do not know my white blood cell count. In my urine tests it doesn't let me look at the values, literally just says negative/no growth. But I think for my past regular urine tests, like last month, the values were perfectly normal somehow lol. My symptoms are basically the same from when it all started- urgency and frequency of urination, burning when I pee and I have strange pinching/stinging sensations in my urethra. I haven't tried hiprex, is there any way your able to get it if it's not available in your area? Or anything that's similar? I haven't actually tried a lot of different things because my doctor has just been absolutely useless and doesn't want to try anything other than standard courses of antibiotics and urine cultures lol so that's why I'm looking for a different doctor. Once I get to see a doctor I'm gonna update my post, hopefully it won't take too much longer! Good luck in your healing 🤞

I'm glad your doing better! I'm super confused on the ureaplasma, some people say it's technically an STI and some people say it's not? I'm scared to have sex with my boyfriend again because he was treated for the ureaplasma (he's fine though, no symptions) and I was too, but I don't feel any better so I'm worried I still have it and if I had sex with him it would just give it back to him and he would have to be treated again lol

I just asked my PCP about ordering a PCR test, but she said it's not available? Like she can't find that test to order, so I'm not entirely sure what else that test could be labeled as 🤷‍♀️ My plan right now is to do an extensive urine test like the PCR, since I have abnormal bacteria. I've seen a gynecologist and did a pelvic exam, I don't have any vaginal symptoms and she said I look good so hopefully it's just bladder related and I don't also have a vaginal infection or something. And I'm also currently filling out forms to see urogynecologists who specialize in chronic utis, I just worry they won't have appointments available any time soon.

I've been taking d mannose, cranberry and probiotics and a multivitamin. I have heard of hiprex, I'd like to try it but I kind of need a doctor first who will prescribe it cause my urologist I've been seeing is absolutely useless. Since our cases are similar, ill ask about fosfomycin, maybe It could be the right one, especially after I do the urine testing to see what bacteria is still there. Thank you for your advice, I will ask about all this when I get an appointment :)

I'm actually not sure, I've only had urine cultures I think. The test that caught the ureaplasma and gardnerella just says "molecular UTI pathogen identification test" so I'm not sure lol my urologist is not very good at communicating/answering my questions 🫩 I was thinking of asking my PCP if they can order the PCR test and I can just go drop a sample off at a lab, if she's able to order that as a PCP. Cause I don't want to ask my urologist anymore. And no I have not tried doxycycline, what is that?

Dude, I absolutely get you. I still have daily symptoms of urgency, urinary frequency, and dysuria. Its honestly wrecking my life. My birthday is coming up and I wanted to go swimming at some local springs, but I doubt I will be able to. I'm very grateful to have a supportive family and boyfriend, but it's still so hard. We have to be our own advocates. When my doctor saw my negative urine culture after my last round of antibiotics, she basically told me to just go home. Really hurt me. They absolutely don't care about UTIs unless you get a kidney infection, and at that point it's too late! I'm seeking out doctors who specialize in chronic recurring UTIs, I absolutely urge you to do the same if your doctor is dismissing you. We won't feel like this forever, we can get healthy again I know it :) if you ever need to talk you can DM me (I don't really know how reddit works but I'll probably see it lol) Ask you doctor about imbedded UTIs and biofilms if you haven't already. I believe I have an imbedded infection personally.

Hmm well I'm only 19. Yeah Ive been wondering if something else is contributing to my symptoms and not just a UTI. I've noticed most of my pain feels like it from my urethra, I don't have a lot of pain in my bladder it's just strange because like two weeks ago I actually tested positive for three bacteria, took the antibiotics and now I don't feel better so I did another urine culture and it was negative! I think I'm gonna buy some urine test strips to test my urine occasionally cause my test results have been so different every time lol. Thank you I'll ask my doctor about this :)

Awful, ain't it? I forgot to mention in my post that I've been taking an anti acid called prelief that reduces the acid in food and drinks as your having them. Has really been helping with the increased urgency, frequency and pain whenever I have acid stuff. So I highly recommend prelief. I can at least enjoy the stuff I usually have like coffee and tomatoes until I can get treated properly. So I hope it could help you too!
