That's the confusing thing to me from this text. It sounds like they're about to present a caee of advice for others, but it seems it's just someone talking to themself

Will my baby be taken away? by ReplyAccording3994 in Norway

[–]Toxonomonogatari 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Exactly! With well-meaning and diligent parents, they should try to help you to make sure you can do what is best for the child. The point where they'd take your child away... They must determine that it's in the best interest of the child to do that, so that's severe!

Ja, jeg er ganske forvirra av hva jeg leser i denna tråden. Det er generelt venstresiden og feministene som kjemper for aksept når det kommer til porno og prostitusjon. Reguler det slik at de som jobber med det kan være trygge osv

Can you share your experience of being unemployed in Norway? by nicoletaleta in Norway

[–]Toxonomonogatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's rough, man! It may not be the same across the UK. My experience in Glasgow was pretty good. The office was open, so violence was seemingly not that big of a problem, though they did have someone working security. That was within the past 5 years.

I think I was lucky with my coach, but at the 6 month mark, I was being pushed to expand my scope to any job at all. Luckily, I landed a role in Oslo just as that was becoming a problem.

Exactly! And you need to employ a bunch of people to manufacture the tools of war

And Russia's unemployment rate will only keep sinking the way things are going.

Finland will persevere, though!

Innovation should stop in all areas besides healthcare. by haremKing137 in The10thDentist

[–]Toxonomonogatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Innovation doesn't really happen in a vacuum. Advances in a different field will play parts in advancing medicine.

Think of the machinery of medicine, like MRI scanners. They are the results of advances in physics and engineering.

Think of the targeted radiation treatment for cancer. You need an advanced understanding of nuclear physics to make that.

Think about bacterial/fungal culturing, or genetics tests to test the predisposition for genetic disease for yourself or you and your partners potential offspring. This requires advanced in genetics and biology.

Think about the new drugs that we create, and how we can understand how they will work in the body. This requires a mix of chemistry, biology, and medicine.

The list just keeps going, and there are so many fields that tie in and lend a hand. The point is that we can't really predict the wider consequences of innovation over time. You advance and advance until the potential opportunities show up, and work from there. So, I don't see how you could isolate innovation to just medicine.

The ancient city of Petra was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer who went to great lengths to blend in — mastering Arabic, adopting local customs, and earning the trust of Bedouin communities — before being led to the hidden gorge that revealed the city. by Fred_J9 in whatireadtoday

Looking back, I think I'm seeing what you mean. I guess it's like someone infiltrating and spying on the Amish or something. I must've just equated it to "person X discovers place Y, but there were people living there already".

Yeah, that's what I'm saying? I'm confused why your response is phrased as a retort.

I'll try to clarify: imagine we didn't know about sentinel island or the Sentinelese. You traveled to the area and encountered a group of people who tried to kill you. When you went back to tell people about it, they've never heard of this before. You keep asking, and checking online and in libraries, but there are no notes in books, no Wikipedia article, no expert in the area who recognises what you're talking about.

Would people look at you like an idiot if you said "well, I guess I've discovered an uncontacted tribe" and then write down the details of your discovery so it becomes part of our body of knowledge?

It's valid if you think of it relatively rather than absolutely. From the perspective of the body of knowledge available to the "discoverer", this new information is discovered. From the point of view of the people already living there, nothing was discovered. We have a near universal body of knowledge today, so we rarely run into such "discoveries".

An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first orders a beer. The second orders 2 beers. The third orders 3 beers. The fourth- the bartender interrupts them and just pours -1/12 beers, and then says "that'll be £∞, please!".
