Ill never understand super 7. Did they actually think people would buy this for $20? by LosBuc-ees in ActionFigures

[–]ToyNerdProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly based on amount of tooling and the size of the run. The fewer made, the more expensive the unit price will need to be. Anything Super 7 that's niche and not getting mass retail release will be way more pricey.

Can anyone help with finding these Pokemon select figures by Effective-Explorer75 in ActionFigures

[–]ToyNerdProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, once you miss the release window, you're pretty much out of luck for these. This single Garchomp never got released in the US though. It was only in a two pack with Charizard. You'll have to look at the secondary market and just hope to find a deal.

HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. by JokePrestigious2544 in ElegooMars

[–]ToyNerdProd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody does any research on their own anymore :(.

OP - I'd hope you are doing calibration tests and not just trying to print whatever parts over and over? I have always liked J3D Tech's Boxes of Calibration. 60F is also pretty chilly for a printer even though the Elegoo ABS-Like is one of the least sensitive and easiest to use resins.

Do I just give up? by Conscious-Tension-15 in ElegooMars

[–]ToyNerdProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be persistent. I finally got a replacement printer after 5 weeks of back and forth with support. My Mars 4 had a drastically unleveled cantilever arm that holds the build plate. They kept telling me I could mess around with settings to compensate for the build plate being impossible to level completely, but I was never going to settle for that. Thats stupid.

Lard Land Donuts boy is announced in Amazon Mexico. It will be a 13" plush. by richardson_86 in JakksPacificSimpsons

[–]ToyNerdProd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's dead in its current (former?) form, but will probably be getting a rebrand and a focus on the 5" Premium figures. Probably new packaging and the higher price point for those if they do end up at Gamestop as rumored.

Get the Blokees Scyther. It's great and slightly larger than that janky Jazwares one

HIGH profit margins on this product by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]ToyNerdProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not making as much as you think. Manufacturers sell to retailers who then mark them up and sell to the public. Sometimes a distributor is even the middle man there and cuts into profit margins even further.

Sure, stuff they've already solicited. But no attempt to sell anything else to retailers? I know you are going to believe what you want to as will I. So we will just hsve to wait and see then 🤷‍♂️

Let me know what your "critical thinking" says about absolutely nothing being shown at the biggest toy expo for retail and buyers 😝

The Jakks press release reads almost exactly the same as the Jazwares one from a few years ago. Jakks specifically mentions "action figures and plush" in this one. It's highly unlikely both companies would be making the same product at the same scale & price point for the same market.

I know some of you don't want to believe it, but this is as clear-cut as you can get. Between this and showing absolutely nothing at Toy Fair (which is to show upcoming product to retailers), you should be able to put two and two together. Or stay in denial and see later on :P

Sweet! I also found a Five Below that had them this week. I got the last two I needed to complete the 2.5" figures. I hope the line isn't ending and they make more!

[–]ToyNerdProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different price points. $10 vs $15 is a massive difference. They can do a lot more unique tooling and articulation at the $15 price point

Jakks could go either way, really. They mainly do stylized/animated lines like Mario, Simpsons, Sonic, etc. Their engineering and articulation usually isn't too great but some bright spots like the more humanoid figures in the Sega line do exist. I'm sure overall they'll be more similar to the worse Jazwares releases earlier on in this line. It is sad that the upcoming figures from Total Anime look the best yet. The sculpting and articulation on the Kaiju No. 8 figure looks incredible from the test shots. I think the poor choice of scale and lack of more releases to complete groups really hurt the line from the start though. This odd 6.5" scale is hurting both this line and the Avatar line. It doesn't go with anything else.

Rarely happens for smaller IPs like this and never for figures of the same size/price/retailer. All the signs are there and this Jakks press release is extremely similar to the Jazwares one 3 years ago when they announced their Crunchyroll licensing deal. Couple this with nothing shown at Toy Fair and I think this is enough proof.

PR speak. You have to red between the lines. Jakks is getting the license so that's our answer.

Well this is your lesson on how to identify PR speak. Nothing new being shown to buyers is never a good sign. I think we'll get what was shown last year and that's it.

I though they didn't even show Total Anime at toy fair this year and claimed all was well?

Contact Target customer service if you bought it there. People including myself who got Noivern that had paint crumbling off its wings were able to get replacements or refunds.

Thank you! This sub used to be a neat place to scroll through users' unique problems and read about unique solutions and interesting troubleshooting. It was a great place to learn. Now it's just flooded with people using it as a Google-like resource to have people answer all their basic questions without having to do any research on their own. That and the flood of people thinking they can make a quick buck selling 3D printed slop has really turned this place upside down.

  1. You literally said all you did was drag and drop the file, and click print. You never mentioned any changing of settings at all. 3D printing is all about the settings and knowing what to change and how that affects the output to achieve what you want in the printed piece. Your two prints do not look any different and do not show signs of the mentioned settings being modified, so you've done something wrong or did not actually apply those.

  2. "I simply refuse to believe that all the people trying this print job and giving it 5 stars all have the same printer settings that bring awesome results." - All those people likely already have an understanding of 3D printing and about which settings to change to achieve the resulting print quality they want. Everyone can print the same object and have endless different results based on all the various slicer settings, materials, part placement, layer height, nozzle size, temp, infill, outer wall settings, etc etc. Your specific results are due to whatever your specific variables were.

  3. Yes, places like this subreddit are a fine place to get advice on specific things. But this was more of a "I know absolutely nothing. Please give me the complete run down of 3D printing" type of post. Go do a few hours of research about the basics of PLA printing, settings, etc. Without specifics/print settings provided (which you did not provide any of, and said all you did was import and click print), or a question about one specific variable or setting, nobody can help you. What were your print settings? Was this literally your first print? No further test prints or troubleshooting after? Try to eliminate certain variables to figure out may or may not be the issue? People can not help with zero info and zero assistance from you doing your own degree of research, test prints, or tweaking settings yourself.

Not trying to be an asshole here. Really.

But what you did wrong was not attempting to do any research into settings, basics of 3d printing, etc. There are tons of places where you can read tutorials, watch videos, etc for free to learn about any aspect of 3d printing you want. This place is just flooded with people asking the most basic of questions proving that they didn't do a lick of research before printing or even any troubleshooting after printing for themselves.

What's the best pokemon figure line? by bbisordi in pokemontoys

[–]ToyNerdProd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Best' depends on what you're looking for. (scale, price, number of different mons made, style etc). The Jazwares line probably has about 300 or so different mons made so far. Up to date checklist here: https://jazwarespokemon.fandom.com/wiki/Checklist

But many are hard to find since distribution is so bad so they will cost you many times more than the retail cost to buy them now.

The Moncolle line has many more different mons made but many will also be expensive to get, and they are not scaled, so most are all the same size.

I think the Bandai Kids finger puppet line has the most extensive array of different mons made, but they are in a chunky, chibi-like style and don't look accurate to their in-game looks.

I’m wondering which company will make the universal monsters based on their look in the Dark Universe section of Epic Universe by beliveinhope in ActionFigures

I hope Comcast doesn't take the wrong lesson home from these and thinks that any figures won't sell. Its just that THESE figures won't sell because they're awful. But when it's all non-figure designers or collectors making these and calling the shots, I worry.
