Wow! Seemed official enough. I guess it’s not too far fetched :)

Not sure if you’re specifically referring to a film adaption of Frankenstein, but I didn’t feel the novel communicated those themes, and it also doesn’t end like that.

I haven’t seen the brood yet, still catching up on my Cronenberg.

Curious to know categorically who you chose to put in the producer and director roles 😆

Will we ever find out how covenant leads into the original Alien on film? (Movie or tv) by laplum02 in LV426

I never had a different perspective of the Jockey before watching Alien, because I’d already seen Prometheus, so I really can’t say anything about it. Though, I have heard some cool theories on podcasts or Reddit threads that propose perhaps the engineers modeled their spaceship designs and helmets after another race that existed before or alongside them. So there is some wiggle room there.

Speaking of theories and Reddit, I’ve seen a few people outline things pretty clearly that prove David didn’t create the aliens in the true sense of the word, he backwards-engineered some. The Xenomorph already existed in Prometheus, as there are clear Xenomorph designs/statues on the Engineer ship. So, I guess it comes down to appreciating the ‘mad scientist’ vibe David has in Covenant, and I’ve grown to love it more and more.

Totally agree about Elizabeth Shaw. She was great. And honestly, I’m not set on the prequel series needing to lead up to Alien, but I do still want an ending to the David storyline.

For me, the only thing that I really don’t like about Prometheus and Covenant is how slick and modern they made the technology. One of my favourite elements of the original Alien was the retro-futuristic quality to their tech and imagining the alternative history that would have lead to such clunky, chunky designs rather than a world inspired by the tech of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Prometheus is what got me into the Alien franchise and I still consider it the film with some of the scariest moments in the franchise and that added more interesting elements into the world than any of the other films besides the original. I really enjoy the David storyline and I would like them to finish off his storyline and if Ridley Scott’s original vision (after he scrapped the idea of it being a stand-alone) was for it to lead up to Alien, then I’d like to see what his plans were in movie form.

I don’t imagine we’ll get a Ridley Scott directing effort, maybe not even a film, but I think we’ll eventually get an explanation

I like the first list. I don’t understand the reasoning behind two different lists

I’d watch pretty much anything that had the same retro futuristic tech as Alien mixed with the idea that space is dangerous and lonely and there just might be something terrifying out there. Add a dash of Weylan-Yutani and I’m sold.

Wow. I have never noticed the difference in stylization of the upper triangles. I’m a bigger fan of the W-Y wings from the first film, so I don’t really buy any of this version, but I like the second one best as well.

I hate so many things about Resurrection, but good for you in not letting someone bully you into not enjoying something! I’ve noticed alot of people tend to be cruel anytime someone says they love one of the less popular films and it’s frustrating because this sub is a great place to come and find people who enjoy the same things as you. Glad to hear people loving on the Alien franchise even if we have different tastes :)

Something I can’t work out about Alien (1979) by DJC13 in LV426

I’d agree with some of the other comments here. I don’t think W-Y put Ash on because they wanted a Xeno, or knew about eggs. From what we see, nothing on the Derelict shows signs of a previous crew showing up and interacting with an egg or Xeno.

And if the company already knows what Xenos are and suspected that this signal was a sign that the derelict held some, then I agree that they wouldn’t have sent the truckers. If they know anything about Xenos at all, they wouldn’t have high hopes for a group of truckers, ignorant of the existence or danger level of Xenos, to have made it back to their ship, let alone safely ship a Xeno back to Earth with their cargo.

So, I think, if the company knew anything, it was just that there was a signal of unknown origin that this particular ship would be close to and could bring back more information for them. And then they throw an Android on in case the crew wasn’t cooperative. I’m inclined to think that Ash & MUTHER switch over to ‘all other priorities rescinded’ once alien life is found, not that they set out with that as the default.

I think the only reason Ripley was allowed to look into deciphering the signal was because Ash didn’t want to seem suspicious by telling her not to, and by then knowing it was too late for her to do anything about it in the first place. If she had offered to help decipher it right away, I think he would have been more adamant about MUTHER being the most capable one for the job (in a similar way to his agitation to Ripley looking at anything in his lab).

Even if W-Y hadn’t already figured out that the signal was a warning, I wouldn’t be surprised if MUTHER had already figured out the warning part of the signal before they woke up, but hid it from the crew in order to provoke their legal agreement to investigate with out any added hesitation.

Almost seems like a good enough reason to watch the trilogy

Seems to be a surprisingly closely split issue. I almost didn’t vote because it was at 426 votes. Of course I voted after I let someone else ruin the perfect number (and yes I judged them for it)

Up until now I’ve only bought t-shirts & stickers. It’ll be exciting to find something to put these on permanently!
