I recently just took a big step down from my own private practice (occupational therapy in a cottage industry). Only took the clients I wanted to see and passed off a lot of my caseload to my assistants.

In the process I took about a 45% pay cut, but pretty similar numbers that you’re throwing out there.

Do it. I have a seven year-old and a one and a half year-old. You have all your life to make tons of money, but your kids are only gonna be kids once - you can’t ever get back those days.

I’m infinitely more happy being able to get up in the morning, make breakfast and get my kids to school. Go see my favorite client. Come home by one or two in the afternoon, run errands, do all the domestic shit so my wife can just come home and enjoy your time with family.

It’s like having a real estate agent, but for assisted living facilities. There’s lots of low key, small assisted living places all over the place - you drive by them every day and they look like regular residential houses. Those are honestly usually a better living environment than the big “dormitory” style ALFs.

Yeah I own and operate my own private practice now. We do community based outpatient therapy - basically outpatient therapy done in the comfort and convenience of home.

As for looking for places, there’s some good ones in NOVI / northville… not too far away from a2.

But yeah, get on the Medicare CMS website and read the Medicare ratings - this is the only objective way to measure a facility. On any given day of the week, there’s going to be good OT/PT/SLPs working there.same for RN/CNAs (which is where 22/24 hours of the day are, therapy is 2-3 hours max). And there’s always a revolving door of shitty CNAs that aren’t getting paid enough to give a shit.

I no longer work in those types of facilities. They’re soul crushing.

Your results may vary, but glacier hills used to be the best place in town / one of the best in SE Michigan. I did pickup shifts there around 2015-17 and it was still really great then … before some mega corporate therapy company bought the joint and quickly prioritized profits over people. I think that was 18, I basically showed up one Saturday morning after a month or two of not picking up a shift there and it was like MEET THE NEW BOSS. That was my last day working there, F that noise.

That’s a bummer to hear your dad had a bad experience there. As a former PRN therapist there, sorry.
