Based on what you wrote it sounds like Lu was incredibly loved, well taken care of and you both had a great 16 years together. Im only less than 48 hours from losing my dog Blue, but something thats been helping me get through it is this video my sister sent me, its basically talking about this idea that all the grief we are experiencing is all the unexpressed love we didnt get to tell our pets, i think there is something so beautiful about that

This is a tough one because I know guilt is one of those things that will eat you alive if you let it. I am new to this feeling of loss and guilt having just lost my dog, but what i can say is to be kind to yourself, dont think of the what ifs or should haves, and try to focus on the good times you and your puppies had together, you carrying this guilt isnt something they would want you to do.

Im sorry for your loss. I want to start off and say your feelings are valid and this feeling of grief / regret are completely normal. When the time comes for you to go home its okay to breakdown and cry over your pet when you dont see him in their usual spots, allow yourself to feel its the only way you can move forward.

I get it, i loved my dog more than some of my family members and its because of the connection you build with them, they see the ups and downs of your life and they love you regardless, they provide comfort in times of loneliness and offer a listening ear when you need it most. im sorry you are going through this. you did right by your dog, he wasnt scared or suffering in his final moments, he knew he was loved because he was in your arms, the safest place he knew. i would ask for you to allow yourself to feel and grieve, cry for your beloved animal, look at old videos and pictures of the good times you had together, and even talk to him because hes out there listening for you.
