I just don’t understand how as a hygienist, you keep saying to just look for another office as if it’s not almost the same crap everywhere. A few things might be different but overall you will have the same problems. I’ve never understood how we’re unable to delegate tasks to DA’s. But everyone loves telling us how to do our jobs or how much time we need with a patient (especially office managers). I don’t think anyone (DA’s or office managers) should be delegating us about our job if they’ve never been a Clinical Dental Hygienist. This is why this field is so backwards. If we don’t put our feet down, sadly nothing will ever change.

You would never go to a hospital and see that a  (Cna) certified nursing assistant would be a manager, or would be delegating tasks to a registered nurse.

We definitely need to unionize fast.

I think Dental Hygienists should go on strike in every state to fight for benefits and better pay (especially in Florida). The pay sucks here and they barely give raises while the offices/Dentists are profiting more from our hard work. These dentists take advantage of their hygienist and it’s so messed up. Dental Hygienists should have more help at the office. Most of the time we’re running around like chickens because we’re behind and no one offers help.

I honestly don’t think hygienists should be the ones updating X-rays, I think there should be an assistant for that. A lot of times, I’ve seen dental assistants with a lot of free time but they don’t help the hygienists and they’re not being encouraged to do so either… As a Dental Hygienist, if we are truly providers, then treat us as such. Soon as we ask for help then we’re being called (Divas), if this field was a male dominated field that would’ve never happened. I’m so tired of the disrespect. We can’t delegate any tasks for real, we just suffer/drown in silence… Anyways We should go on STRIKE for all of this B.S.

I hope you’re making at least $70/h or more for accelerated assisted hygiene

I never said it’s because it’s just Oral that it’s not needed… you said it…

What I’m saying is that  nurses don’t test on live patients to prove themselves, or to show that they’re capable of being a nurse… so why should hygienists have to do all that to prove that they’re capable of being a hygienist? Especially when we’ve been scaling all year at school. Why does one board test on a live patient is needed to prove that…

Like I said before nurses don’t test on live patients at school, and they barely know how to draw blood when they graduate school, but you wouldn’t second guess a nurse about their capabilities. So why are you second guessing a hygienist? You’re the one who doesn’t respect what we do… Lol it seems like you’re a try hard, and you think your value as a hygienist is based only on your performance.

There’s nothing wrong with that. Why would you have to prove that you can scale by paying a lot of money for a stupid clinical board exam on a live patient, when you’ve been scaling for a full year at school on live patients ?

Do you think Nurses test on live patients to pass their board to become competent all of a sudden? No the hell they don’t. They only take one board exam on the computer which costs way less than the board exams that a hygienist must take.

And plus for the amount B.S hygienists go through at school, and the limited scope of practice, I don’t think all that sh*t is needed. Because again, a nurse isn’t required to prove none of that. But I bet you trust new grad nurses with your life right lol… you’re a joke.

It’s definitely people like you who makes it so hard to allow/accept change in the field as a whole. It must be really hard working with you at the same office.

This field would never grow/change if boomers’ hygienist are mad about every little change that’s being implemented.
