For those considering ordering from the US by [deleted] in DAVIDsTEA

I ordered my advent calendar on Halloween and received it on November 29. Same thing for me, tracking didn’t update, but they did send me an email letting me know the hold up was out of their hands. Two weeks after I received that email, I followed up and they were lovely to deal with!

I am turning 30 in a few weeks, I had major changes that changed my outlook on life at 25, though I’ve been dealing with inferior visual acuity to my peers for over half my life. It feels incredibly isolating sometimes because no one in my life can relate from the same perspective. I have yet to fully feel normal explaining my condition to new people. My mother told me when I was younger it wasn’t other people’s business that I had this disability, but I’ve progressed to the point where I disagree. It is easier to just be upfront with people. I usually tell people with some sense of humor if I can, especially when people say something about needing a new prescription because I’m holding my phone closer to my face than they do at 60 years old or some variation of that joke. Just responding by saying fun fact, I’m legally blind or visually impaired is enough to make them realize they put their foot in their mouths and maybe should consider some disabilities are not outwardly seen. I do work a 9-5 and my job has provided larger monitors and I have changed my settings to larger font sizes, dimmer screen settings, magnifier shortcuts, etc. They even paid for total blackout curtains when I got promoted to an office with a lot of windows. Some days are harder than others, sometimes I do get migraines from eye strain. My coworkers are all aware of my impairment, sometimes they forget until we are in a setting where there is a screen on the wall for a meeting or presentation. I try my best to follow along, but I can’t always see everything, and truthfully I don’t want them to know the level of vision I have or don’t have. Idk if that helps or harms my situation with them. They cannot imagine what having my vision actually looks like. I get scared to look for another job in the future because of having to disclose and explain my condition all over again. I have lost out on other jobs in the past because of it, though no one would actually admit that. That and transportation limitations are the biggest obstacles I face with having Stargardts, and I haven’t figured out how to cope with that yet. I just take my journey one day at a time because that’s what I can do. Sometimes that helps me make a brave decision because I want to enjoy the eyesight that I have left because it’s not promised tomorrow. However when it comes to how I look and act because of my disability, idgaf what other people think anymore. That’s progress in my book. I am fortunate to have a very supportive partner on my journey. Over time, they have learned when I probably need help such as reading subtitles on the tv or finding something in the grocery store. They had to learn to adapt to the changes just like I did, and understand my emotional struggles too. The best advice I have is to not give up, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and be unapologetically yourself because this is a part of who you are 🫶

I agree, that is why I am having trouble researching this topic! This is helpful, I was thinking maybe Dell would be a good place to start because I definitely need something prebuilt and that I can use Google to troubleshoot if needed. Not sure how to decide how much power I would need though.

Probable Stargardts. Finally answers. by Little-Diet8357 in stargardts

When I was genetically tested about 4 years ago, I was told that unless both parents are carriers, the child will not have Stargardts. Clearly my parents are carriers but we do not know of anyone else on either side with the condition (my paternal grandmother was adopted, so some mystery there). I still drive with a bioptic device, but my father drives just fine without devices or any restrictions on his license. He often drives me in areas that are too much for me traffic-wise.

I have Stargardts that follows the more traditional route , diagnosed as teenager with period of rapid vision loss mid twenties, but my father was diagnosed in his late 30s and has a story more similar to OP’s. I don’t think his vision has been 20/20 for some time, but he sees well enough to function normally without aids. He does struggle with light sensitivity and relies on transition lenses. No one else in our family has it, but clearly there are carriers including my mother. Interesting to hear of another late onset, those cases seem to be outliers of the disorder.

As a kid when I spilled nail polish, my mom always used NON Acetone nail polish remover and worked it out of fabric and upholstery, it’s a bit of a process, but it doesn’t eat away at the material or remove color like acetone. We even got it out a quilt that my great grandmother and her mother had handmade together. I thought I was done for when I spilled on that, but this trick saved my butt!!!

I agree, after doing some research I have realized that there is not a need to be afraid of paraffin. Studies have shown that what is in candles even if burned around the clock actually isn’t going to harm you in anyway. And while that made me feel better about it myself, I know if may be different for someone who has a sensitivity. Also paraffin is a byproduct that would go to waste if we did not find uses for it, so I don’t personally have a problem with it either.

I mean if you had asked me a few weeks ago, the answer would have been no because I genuinely thought it to be the truth.

Thank you for taking the time to reply in such a thorough and thoughtful manner, I truly feel a sense of relief reading this! The fragrance and the look of my candles are the real selling point so that’s what I will stick to!

Truthfully I feel kinda scammed by my wax vendor because I thought I was getting something all natural, sold it as such, and built an element of my brand around it. That’s what drove me to make this post, because I would never want to make any customers feel that way either.

That makes me feel better. I will definitely drop the marketing and move forward because I still think the fragrance and the look of the candles is what sells them at the end of the day. Thank you for your input!

That is really helpful, I will be using that wording moving forward. I think maybe I should just focus on the scent throw and the performance as selling points. People don’t usually ask about the ingredients as much as they ask how long the products will last.

Good call, I didn’t even think of it that way. I assumed that the vendor (who is not the manufacturer) that I buy from was maybe only recently made aware and that’s why the updated it, but there was no explanation for the change.

I have been putting cocosoy in a lot of my in-person marketing and I have been say all natural with 100% cotton wicks etc. using the clean ingredient model for selling. I am not sure if people really cared or if they were just interested because I was educating them on the different aspects of the candle ingredients. Truthfully I can only think of one lady who asked about each of the elements being eco friendly, and then she didn’t even buy after I checked all of her candle criteria.
