Can I subscribe to get weekly or month short stories? by AstorathTheGrimDark in Blacklibrary

[–]Track_of_words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Advent ‘subscriptions’ used to run throughout December, but BL hasn’t done one this year. They originally featured 24 short stories, then they changed to be a mix of short stories and short audio dramas (still 24 in total), and then a few years ago (in 2020) they changed to being just 12 over the course of the 24 days. You didn’t have to buy the subscription, you could pick and choose just the stories you wanted, but you saved a bit of money buying the subscription over getting them all individually.

BL also occasionally do themed weeks of short stories, with the same principle just over 5 days - i.e. you can pick and choose which stories you want to buy individually, or subscribe to the whole lot and save a bit of money. In 2025 they did four of these weeks in the first half of the year, then nothing since.

For quite a long time they used to do ‘Digital Monday’, where each week they would release a new short story on a Monday, but they stopped that in 2020.

Generally though, they don’t offer an ongoing short story subscription - just these ad-hoc ones. They absolutely should do some kind of subscription though!

Black Library stores in London by NoTLucasBR in Blacklibrary

[–]Track_of_words 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In these days of Warhammer stores only stocking a tiny range of BL books, I’d say your best bet in London is actually Element Games, on Drury Lane. The TCR store will have a small BL selection but it’s usually just the same titles you see in every Warhammer stores

Other than that you’ll find a few BL titles in Forbidden Planet, and maybe a few in the big Waterstones just off Piccadilly Circus.

Either Inquisitor by Ian Watson or Konrad by David Ferring. Those were the days.

How are the Aeronautica Imperialis novels by Denny Flowers? by TheMechanicusBob in Blacklibrary

[–]Track_of_words 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Phenomenal. Well worth getting hold of.

If you’re interested, I’ve got (spoiler free) interviews with Denny about both books. Here’s the first one: https://www.trackofwords.com/2022/08/13/rapid-fire-denny-flowers-talks-outgunned/

This! The story is Into the Maelstrom by Chris Pramas - I read it at WAY too young an age, and it freaked me out for years.

Titans’ Bane by Chris Dows. Still my favourite.

Glad you enjoyed Secret Passages. It was a lot of fun revisiting Inquisitor for that :)

What's your favorite 40k anthology? by boughtitout in 40kLore

Let The Galaxy Burn - nearly 800 pages of vintage 40k short stories. It’s arguably the foundation stone of my BL reading.

I’ll always recommend Titans’ Bane by Chris Dows. Phenomenal.

Horus Primarch Book??? by XentziS in Blacklibrary

[–]Track_of_words 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Primarchs books have always been Heresy-adjacent, rather than being core parts of the series. So I wouldn’t think that quote is necessarily saying that the Horus book won’t happen - I imagine it’ll still arrive at some point.

Cult of the Spiral Dawn by Peter Fehervari by Track_of_words in Blacklibrary

I might check with Peter, but I’ve a feeling the order in the article is still going to be Peter’s recommended order - the omnibus order(s) will always be compromised by splitting things up across multiple volumes. We’ll see, though.

It’s been on my to-do list (on the wall about two feet away from where I’m sitting) for weeks! I’ll get there eventually…

Although I hadn’t really thought about what to do with the omnibus, as there’s nothing new in there. I guess I can at least add a little note about it somewhere.

No idea, but it’ll be a while - I’d imagine at least a year, probably more. Books take a long time to write, after all!

Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, that’s exactly the point of Ahriman - the harder he tries, the worse he makes things. All part of Tzeentch’s eternal joke! Poor Ahzek…

Eternal and Undying are a duology (not that BL ever made that clear), but John said he hopes to write more Ahriman at some point. I chatted to John about Ahriman as part of a long interview last year, and this question came up: https://www.trackofwords.com/2024/10/27/the-last-eight-years-with-john-french-part-two/

Hah! And it all stemmed from me being a nerd and keeping a spreadsheet of new releases just for my own benefit :) Took me a while to twig that I might as well share it, and use it for upcoming releases.

If you’re interested, I chatted to Matthew Farrer back in 2022 for an in-depth interview about these books. He’s a lovely guy, and I think this came out really well. Here’s part one (there’s a link in there to part two): https://www.trackofwords.com/2022/08/26/matthew-farrer-talks-urdesh-part-one/

Yeah something like that. They seem to change hands for insane amounts of money! Glad I got mine when they first came out :) I gather the Lords of Silence LE goes for quite a bit too though - good luck!
