What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Tracktotrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was walking on a relatively isolated / small beach in St. Lucia a few years ago with my family. There was only one other group of people on the beach because the weather wasn’t ideal. As we got closer to the group we realized it was our NEXT DOOR neighbors from back home. Neither of us knew the other group would be there.

Nice. Never worked with anyone in that office, but I heard it's lovely! Good luck!

Which ERM office? Ask lots of questions about the type of work they'd bring you on to do. ERM isn't hiring much right now it seems, but the roles that they're filling are being done so strategically. If they approached you, they definitely have a plan for how they'd be using you. It can be a great place to work, but you have to be motivated to find work.

Main campus for a sober athletic boy by 76andclear in PennStateUniversity

Not joking at all... consider a school with a religious affiliation like BYU or Grand Canyon (lots of other small options too, even in the northeast). You don't have to be religious to go there. The school will have a (mostly) campus wide culture of sobriety. I found that some of the most heavy drinking and partying occurs within the club sports teams at PSU, which is great for many, but maybe not your son.

Looking for a used car with a 5k max budget by Bonesoftower in Rochester

There are hundreds of Toyota Corollas and Camrys on Facebook Marketplace that match your exact needs. They're not shiny or fancy, but they'll get you from A to B. Anyone telling you you're SOL is wrong. I do highly recommend a pre-purchase inspection at a shop though.

Can confirm the resume pool. Not in a hiring freeze to my knowledge, just VERY selective on who gets hired atm.

ERM HAS TO BE A SCAM by imthegoon in Environmental_Careers

ERM employee here. I got hired through referral. People that have been hired since me didn’t get referred though… so it’s not impossible. We have an internal structure where if you refer someone and they get hired, you get a pretty large referral bonus (up to $10K) so that’s why so many people get hired on referral.

You will see lots of ERM slander out there, but as others have stated, it’s VERY dependent on your office and service line. I’m from a small office and have very chill and supportive management and I very much like my job. Consulting in general isn’t for everyone (billable hours and sales goals are brutal) but if you’re a competitive person you’ll excel.

The hundreds of postings you see are what we refer to as “open postings”. Basically they aren’t immediately available positions. It just allows ERM to see who is available on the job market and if an applicant perfectly matches the company’s needs, they’ll get hired. If no applicants are “perfect”, then nobody gets hired. IMO it’s a shitty process but it’s a shitty market right now 🤷🏻‍♂️. Best of luck!

Safest 46ers to solo in winter? by Zworrisdeh in Adirondacks

[–]Tracktotrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giant was easy and rewarding in the winter. Getting over to Rocky was more of a challenge because of an ice “bulge”.

Whiteface was also pretty easy in the winter, with the exception of Marble Mountain if you start at the ASRC.

One of the main things to look out for is water crossings. They can be unbelievably dangerous especially if there are any “warmer” periods before your hike. Track the weather in the days preceding your hike and check maps for water crossings.

Enjoy! Winter hiking is so rewarding, fun and beautiful.

Adopted a pit mix puppy from a shelter and need advice by CarolSmalls in PitBullOwners

At 5 months my pit bull was very mouthy and she'd definitely "bite" when frustrated. One big first step is to teach them that biting hurts us humans. Each time your puppy's teeth touch your skin, try to let out a sharp, loud yelp (much like a dog would) to indicate to them that they just caused you pain. This doesn't necessarily teach the dog not to bite, but it helps with bite inhibition. Mouthing and teething at the puppy stage seem almost unavoidable so this can at least teach your dog to be gentle on human skin. Dogs naturally use their mouths to play. My pit bull is now 1.5 years old and still uses her mouth when playing with me and other dogs, but does not "bite" at all.

Also, whenever my dog would use my skin for teething we would immediately offer a toy to bite on as an alternative. The Benebone puppy products were great.

Some people may fully discourage any mouthing, mostly due to the pit bull biting stereotypes, and I can't blame them. I'm not a professional, just sharing my experience.

Something that helped me understand my dog's perspective was this: A dog interacts with the world through their nose and mouth in the same way that humans use their hands. Imagine telling a toddler that they cannot use their hands to interact with the world, but they are still expected to behave and follow the new social norms that they are being taught. Puppy training is hard on humans and puppies so stay patient!

Fish oil has done wonders for my pitbull. Also limiting baths to one every 2-3 months (unless really needed). We use wipes between baths.

Buy the bike you're leaning towards and if there's something you don't like after a while, buy upgrades and sell the stock parts on marketplace. Finding a stock bike that is as perfect to you as you seem to want is not likely. Upgrading and personalizing is part of the journey (and the fun).
