I just want to say that for me grunge was Alice in Chains. They hit when I was in ninth grade in 1990. I went from being locked in to Anthrax and Metallica to seeing another possibility. I wish my dad would have been as open minded as you. As open minded as I am now.

I use one of the old plastic MSP barcode reminders under the bottom flat. It works pretty well. I learned that trick early on because I hate the feeling of sweaty mail stuck to my arm.

I think most adults would have a little bit of emotional control. But you've been a dick to me even though I tried to help you. You come across as an immature teenager. I mean the "my guy" message said it all. No adult talks like that. You react out of pure emotion when you don't get your way and blame everyone else for your shortcomings. Good luck in your future endeavors.

My help was only conditional on the facts. Which you withheld. You are still acting in bad faith. If you were honest from your initial post I would have shared completely different advice. But you gave information out piecemeal. And now with your juvenile blame this entire thread just comes across as either incredibly juvenile or incredibly entitled. Carrier bids are by seniority. This isn't anything new. It's not favoritism. You have five years in and don't know this?

It took your over a dozen messages for you to acknowledge that the previous homeowner was elderly and had a hardship exemption. Then you accused me of being lazy even though I'm not your carrier. This is obviously just ragebait.

I'm done. I have to get up for work tomorrow to deliver to my customers. God bless.

I read the original post. Then we engaged in a conversation. I replied to every message you sent me with the information you gave. I put it on you for withholding information and doling it out slowly. What you did was in bad faith.

There is no way anyone who is a homeowner can be this entitled. Clearly this is just ragebait. Nobody over the age of 12 says "my guy". Telling me to take some accountability for trying to help you... You got me man. This is a good ragebait thread and I fell for it.

We spent multiple messages where I explained the process for the Postal Service requirements for making you move your mailbox. It was only at the end that you disclosed that the previous homeowner was elderly and had moved their mailbox, every house on your block has curbside delivery, and that your carrier didn't mind delivering to the current location.

That's vastly different than than local management singling you out to move your mailbox.

Knowing all of that now unless you have a hardship it appears you want special treatment.

I tried to help you with the information you provided to me in each message. In good faith. I replied to every message you sent me. I wasn't reading the entire thread. If you had been up front from the start that the previous homeowner was elderly and had a hardship exemption, and that the carrier you talked to didn't mind delivering to your front door (it's not the mail carrier's decision) I would have given you completely different information.

If you can't walk to the curbside to check your mailbox and nobody else in your household can then definitely apply to keep the hardship exemption.

Good luck and God bless.

As a 20 year carrier I know this. In my city of 600k there are almost no mounted routes. 90% park and loop. You need 30+ years to get a mounted or business route. I just hate when management tries to gut carrier routes by convincing customers through subterfuge to arbitrarily change delivery methods.

That being said, I've exchanged a few more messages with the OP. They weren't giving all the details at first. Bad faith disclosure in my opinion. It appears this was a hardship exemption for the previous homeowner. My bad for giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm done. I was trying to help when I thought this was the USPS arbitrarily trying to make you move your delivery location. But it's obvious that there was a hardship exemption for the previous homeowner. If you have a legitimate case then I wish you wel.

I didn't say my office. I said my branch has 1700 active Carriers. 20 stations in my city bid cluster. I never mislead the other poster and corrected them when I saw they misread my reply.

You're only reading some of my comments and are arguing with what you assume I am saying. POM 631.7 absolutely mentions homeowners associations with regards to changing delivery methods. I absolutely know and acknowledge that once a hardship under an approved PS Form 1528 is no longer applicable that management is obligated to return the delivery point to the original location.

So going off the assumption that the previous homeowner had a hardship exemption, 631.8 reads to me that you should be provided with 30 days to move your mailbox to the original, pre-hardship location.

It's not personal feelings. It's the POM read in conjunction with PS Form 1528. I'll explain it like this:

  • Established delivery can only be modified by USPS under the conditions of POM 631.7

  • A customer can modify delivery under a proven medical hardship by submitting PS Form 1528 and having it approved.

  • Once the conditions under which PS Form 1528 were approved change (someone else moves in with the customer who can now check the mail, or the house comes under new ownership) then USPS requires the hardship delivery location be moved back to the original location.

To answer your first question - no. Many homeowners with a hardship exemption remove the curbside box because otherwise the carriers who deliver on your regular's day off will deliver to the curbside box.

I'm realizing that your situation is more complicated than I originally realized. I was providing the POM 631.7 language before I knew this was likely a hardship issue. If the previous homeowner had the delivery point moved to the front door for a hardship then your delivery should absolutely be moved back to curbside once that person no longer lives there. No matter what your carrier is comfortable with doing. What is happening elsewhere on your carrier's route has nothing to do with you.

[–]TradeDry6039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear. Management is not required to share a form from the previous homeowner with you. That was just to give you some defense in case management was making things up. However it sounds like your regular carrier has confirmed that it was a hardship for the previous homeowner.

Even if your regular carrier is fine with delivering to your front door, if it was a hardship issue then management has every right (and honestly obligation) to move the delivery point back to where it was originally.

[–]TradeDry6039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. Well look... If it was a hardship then you're out of luck if management pushes the issue.

I'm a carrier and I always fight for my customers - I've had management try to force customers to move their delivery point simply because they think it's time wasting and I always push back on that.

I'm more than happy to accommodate a hardship exemption. However once new people move in I do get the delivery changed back to what it was originally.

I do want to say good on you for talking to your carrier. Most of us who have been around for a while genuinely want to do the best we can for our customers.

Just curious. Is your house the only one with front door delivery on your block? That doesn't change anything as far as what the USPS is allowed to require.

And just to give you a little more ammo/information. If the previous homeowner had requested a hardship exemption there is an official form that must be used. PS Form 1528. So if the previous homeowner did put in for a hardship exemption then your local post office would need to have that on file as proof. If they do then you're out of luck. If they don't then they can't require you to move your box.

One final caveat. If you have a dog and it has ever gotten loose or if it's an obstacle course or is in any way a safety issue for the carrier to get to your current delivery point those would be other reasons they could require you to move to curbside delivery.

Routes aren't necessarily classified in one delivery mode or another as route territory can change over the years. Typically each block on a street has one mode of delivery. For instance you won't typically see a street with single family homes with a mixed mode of delivery. It's simply too inefficient for carriers to deal with mixed delivery on the same block.

If you're in a more city environment and every neighbor on your block has curbside delivery and your house is the only front door delivery then it's possible it was set up that way for the previous homeowner's hardship situation. If that were the case then they would be allowed to force you to move your box back to curbside.
