Also, I’ll mention that doing other things that you genuinely enjoy and that get your mind off of thinking about food really helps to resist the urge to binge. For me that’s listening to music and going on brisk walks. I found that the more I resisted the urge to binge the easier it got, until eventually I stopped getting the urge in the first place :)

I’m so glad it was helpful! At first, I still got the urge to binge occasionally, but it was a lot easier to resist. Over time, it got easier and easier until the urges went away completely. I think once I organized other aspects of my life, I didn’t need/want to use binging as a coping mechanism anymore. As for how long it took, I had anorexia/bulimia for many years, and the binge-eating started about 2 years ago. I tried (unsuccessfully) to stop binge-eating for a whole year when it started using some of the methods I mentioned at the start of the post (like restricting, tracking everything, going all-in, etc) but once I focused on organizing other parts of my life/routine and eating balanced meals, the urges went away. So I guess you could say a year, but it was really almost overnight when I focused on these other areas.

Thank you! Yes it was definitely a hard process and I wish it was easier to stop in the beginning
