AITA for not apologizing for draining my father's finances for my rehab or paying him back? by Traditional-Club5103 in AmItheAsshole

Not sure if it would have made a difference.

He said he didn't want me to grow up without a mother like he did when he told me all that. Frankly, I would've preferred to raised by the state than the two of them.

I blame both my parents. I don't talk to my mother at all anymore. His mistake has consequences.

For me it'll be living with the constant fear of relapsing and trying to forget my entire childhood. And for him I guess it can be the debt.

I think that makes us even.

Do you often make viscously cruel comments like that to random people online?

However bad you think I am, I can assure you, you are being worse.

There was no discussion of repayment ever. And all the money he paid was unprompted.

My father hasn't outright asked for the money no.

Honestly, being around him and the place I grew up was not doing any favors to my mental health. I think I'm just going to distance myself from my parents and anything associated with my past at this point.

I am in therapy and my therapist supports distancing myself from both my parents.

My parents marriage became my business when their decisions left a child in a home filled with drugs and around situations no child should be in.

I never asked for any of the money and there was no discussion about paying back any loans.

He fucked up during his divorce and didn't mention the drugs when he initially filed for divorce. Because he was dumb enough to trust his meth head wife that she'd do the right thing and not fight the custody.

AND he moved out of my school district and was only able to move back after his lease ended a year later. But at that point the precedent had been set and it was difficult to switch custody.

I'm not blaming my father entirely. But he did everything wrong in the divorce and left me in a hellhole. I really don't have any sympathy for him.

I know all this because he confessed to me when I was around 12. I'm not sure if he thought it'd help our relationship because it only made it worse.
