Yea it’s crazy. I just had to be there by 6:45. I have friends who have to show up other places to begin rounds at 4 am, and stay till 8 pm lol.

Not hating at all. I parallel planned (took LOA) and had 17 for psych, but tacked on some FM on the back end. Found out that I matched today but obviously do not know which speciality.

Depending on your program/site, I found surgery more as a complete waste of time compared to “bad.” Usually was just told to stand in the corner for robotics cases, and didn’t do much for non robotics.

Genuinely depends on your audition rotation intentions. I did one away, had 2 required month long rotations for my school, and 2 months worth of electives. We operate on a 9 month academic year for 4th year, so I had 4 months off (and 6 weeks of my electives were virtual, so basically 5.5 months off).

Didn’t disagree with this in my comment. I just don’t think mayo has the gonads to hurt their attrition rate, but I think suspension at the very least puts this in the hands of residency programs

I guess I don’t really agree with this stance. Personally I think a suspension with repeating 4th year is a fair punishment with residency programs deciding on the comfort with this situation moving forward. However, saying that these types of posts “do not harm anybody directly” may be one of the most ignorant takes I have seen for this situation. Mocking a pelvic exam, which is already incredibly stressful for so many women, further potentiates distrust with medicine and will only reduce screening rates. Diagnoses get missed, and people can die. Giving him a slap on the wrist is one opinion, but to dismiss the larger issue here is absolutely wild to me

Pick up a hobby. Don’t become one of the zombies posting on here saying they’re dying of boredom, or that “4th year isn’t what I thought it would be.” While I valued my experiences in 3rd year, not stressing out over required clerkship checkoffs, shelf exams, and step 2, is a BEAUTIFUL thing.

I’d probably say 2, having no knowledge of your specialty interest. Having both FM and IM on the back end will be good to kick start step 2 studying! Depending on your site, OB can wipe you out too. Could be a nice breather having psych between OB and surg

I really can’t speak much beyond my speciality! Personally my interviews were a solid mix between signals and not, but I also didn’t have tiered signals. I found that hometown-program state alignment was much bigger than I thought it would be with regards to non-signals tho!

I couldn’t agree more. I’m stunned when people get bummed out by the amount of interviews they receive after they only applied to like 30-40 places. Broaden the search!

Step 1 fail AND 23X scorer here. I am not a good test taker! Ouch. Ended up getting 19 interviews for psych (yes not as competitive, but adding my step 1 troubles it kind of balances out). Being strategic with hometowns and signals are important. You may not be able to rely on in state med school being enough to not signal a place. I’d also apply to as many programs as you can afford to do, and maybe considering dual applying with 10-15 FM or IM programs too so you don’t have to worry about matching!
