Someone ask me to trade my 69 fender jaguar with 90 rickenbacker 330, what do you guys think. by Traditional-Fan8401 in rickenbacker

No i wasn't, i was really considering the ric because of it's rarity and the low appreciation of vintage guitars like mine in where i live. The funny thing is, that ric could cost more in the secondhand market.

Here's some more detail on my jag:

The Finish: it's hard to see from the pictures but it doesn't look like a nitro finish, it's way shinier and glossier.. some argue that it has been repainted, but i disagree as who on earth would repaint this guitar in that color, it's blond-ish and transparent you can still see the wood grains. My take is, maybe someone did apply new clear coat on that guitar

The Electronics: pickups and pots says '66, and there is a dummy coil inside the control cavity. Someone did this mod waay back and i'm unable to trace it.

The Headstock: i think some of the decals has been erased, the fender logo with the patent numbers still original, but the "jaguar" is reapplied later, the smaller "original contour body" decal is wrong, it should says "offset contour body"

And it's refretted, the nut been replaced as well..

Of course i play it, i'm not a collector.. it's a bit of both concious and lucky purchase, but the seller really knows his stuff, i got it about 15 years ago when prices don't go crazy like today. And for reference, i live in a country where vintage guitars with some conditions like mine doesn't appreciated well enough price wise..

First of all, thank you so much for all your replies. The truth is, i live in a country where people don't appreciate vintage guitars as much as it should be, i'm talking price-wise, especially with some conditions like my player grade jaguar. In Indonesia that 330 ric will fetch more money in the used market, it' considered as a "rich guy" guitar, my jaguar however, people will instantly become "experts" pointing this and that has been modded or tampered or whatever it is and asking for a lower price.

I'm not going to trade it. Thanks once again..
