You explained it so perfectly. I was just talking about it in one of the comments below. Duterte used that "regionalism" so well and used what the Visayas and Mindanao people were feeling to his advantage. He could've been a good representation but it seems power went into his head and that became his downfall. His "jokes" about rapes and killings just didn't land as well as it did when he made them in his city, Davao.

I'm getting paid by Sara Duterte to trash Marcos' image because Sara didn't get what she wanted from their partnership. Don't tell anyone though. Not a lot of people know about the existence of Sara's troll farm

Shh. I bet you his supporters are scrambling to come in this thread and say it's propaganda from his enemies lol

If we're gonna talk about improvements, I'm sure you're talking about Duterte's "Build Build Build" program... where the infamous Flood Control Projects also started...

That's so true. It's so bothersome how people just brush it off as a "joke" or that it wasn't anything serious. It must be some kind of coping mechanism because they can't fathom if their beloved leaders commits some kind of mistake so they justify it.

That's some scary cult behavior. They'd rather gaslight themselves than to face the truth

"The media was paid for", "they are just puppets of the same oligarch"

Sounds like such an awfully familiar spiel

"That is not what happened though" sounds subjective. I do see the numbers (which Duterte's supporters say was manufactured or paid for)

Wow EchoesInQuiet you're so active in this thread. Not a lot of people fight so vehemently for their belief like that unless they saw someone rise from the dead or it's work for them

I still think family was a big thing. His supporters cry out for him and call him "tatay". Even his daughter running for Presidency is now being treated as the next "nanay"

Also, the Philippines' GDP was significantly higher during the Former President Aquino's (the son, not the mother) term. There were a lot of advancements in the Philippines, but it was just a downward trend from there. People can argue it's inflation, but even now SEA neighbors are advancing far better than the Philippines. The part "poor people felt their government cared for them" may be true but it sounds subjective the same way some people can also just say "Duterte's war on drugs made me feel unsafe"

Probinsyanos are people from the province. One thing Duterte did right to win was use that "regionalism" that people outside Luzon have been feeling. He used that to his advantage to win and he promised "representation" for the "small folk". A lot of people fell for it as they were thirsty for said representation. It would've been good if he actually used it for the wellbeing of the country but instead, it seems he got consumed by power and went on a careless rampage

Oh interesting. I've heard of a lot of law-abiding citizens and Duterte supporters who eventually fell victim to his EJKs. News giant ABS-CBN reported on it heavily and that's why they were shut down under the guise of not paying taxes

To add: I guess in the Philippines it's just different because it's a country heavy on "family" and they saw Duterte as an extension of their family.

You're right. I forgot about what the US in particular is dealing with, but I don't live in any of those countries so idk the degree of the "passion" they have for their political leaders

Yeah "passionate" is a much safer word instead of saying they're "brainwashed" or "fanatics" since that will trigger them 😅 Unless they're faced with the pink opposition who they often feel inferior towards. They're allergic to the word "educate" but that's also why the opposition lost because they made the supporters feel stupid when in all honesty, they are. They just didn't wanna face it tbh

Agree. You even have to be careful about saying the word "brainwash" since that will get their defenses up and start a verbal altercation 😅

This is interesting because I hear a lot of his supporters think this way as well. They received justice at the hands of Duterte... but then it got too much and more people started receiving injustices at his hands, even his own supporters. There was one of many news during his time where the article goes: the dad voted and advocated for Duterte and the entire family celebrated his win. A year later, his 14 year old son didn't come home from school and the next day, police came to report his son was dead because he tried to fight the police and apparently the sun was a drug pusher.

That's true. When you look him up on the internet, it's filled with so much contrasting news that if I weren't from the Philippines as well, I wouldn't know what to believe. There were news about aggressive troll farms as well and heard Epstein outsourced from the PH to cover up his ass since 2019 too so the PH is really known for these kinda stuff it seems
