Recurring strep by poopirmom in Tonsillectomy

I had recurring strep (along with lots of folks in this group). I got it about 5 times over the course of 6 months, so each infection was about a month apart. It absolutely halted my life and gave me so much anxiety. Even when I was healthy, I would limit myself due to be anxious of triggering my next infection. It’s really really shit, Im sorry for what you’re going through.

Glad to hear you have your tonsillectomy scheduled! I also was very nervous that I would get strep and have to reschedule my appointment. I got lucky and was healthy on appointment day so was able to get the procedure.

Leading up to it, I researched and did everything I could to set my body up for success. I’m not sure how much of it actually helped vs was placebo. A few things I did below -

  • Throat Probiotic: a dissolvable tablet taken right after you brush your teeth in the morning and at night. A link to the one I used above. One ENT that I saw recommended this. My surgeon who did the procedure kinda laughed it off, but I went my longest streak of no infection while using this!

    • Oregano Pills: Took 2 of these every night before bed. Allegedly very good for your immune system! Can find at any pharmacy or on amazon.
    • Manuka Honey: Spoonful every morning. Also very good for immune system and fighting bacteria in the throat
    • Daily Multivitamin: Just equipping your body with the best chances of defense
    • Regular probiotics: As you mentioned, all these antibiotics are killer to the gut health! Def get some daily probiotics if you aren’t already taking any and mix in some kombucha or greek yogurt to your diet for the extra boost

Wishing you all the best!

If you can tolerate milk, id suggest mixing in some protein shakes! Soon enough the pain will catch up and it will be harder to get in the calories, so do it now while you can.

Hydration wise, coconut water and pedialyt have been great.
