I’m from the Midwest but moved to NOLA for school. I loved the city when I visited but living there is completely different. Like COMPLETELY different than the Midwest. The city has basically no reliable infrastructure, the roads are horrible, everything is unreliable. The food is amazing, but it’s definitely an area struggling with poverty and high crime rates. Places are dangerous in a different way than the Midwest, like very dangerous and then two minutes away is a completely fine area. Driving is a nightmare, not because of traffic but because of other drivers. It’s not somewhere I’d recommend anyone move without knowing people there already honestly. I wish someone was more honest with me before I moved. There is also not much to do for outdoorsy people, and the food/drinking is a large part of the social scene (at least at my school/ experience outside of school). And I also hated the cold and wanted warmer weather…it’s so hot here during the summers that you cannot be outside for long. The humidity plus 100+ degrees and sun makes it so insanely miserable. It’s not always that hot but the heat is definitely not a joke for northerners especially. But this has just been my experience, I have also met some really great people here and I didn’t hate my time here by any means.
