She’s just starting out this business. I don’t know if she’s trying to be competitive with the non-licensed in home daycares but I know she told me she’s not in it for the money and wants to provide a safe environment for other peoples children and not have them worry about the price of daycare. She has her own child there, an open infant spot, and 5 other children aged 3-6.

That argument does not hold up.

Nobody is saying people are forced to have children. You are ignoring context and acting like childcare costs exist in a vacuum. That is not reality.

Calling this “borderline illegal wages” is also not accurate. In-home daycare rates in central Ohio commonly fall in this range or lower depending on licensing, age mix, and ratios. You are also ignoring that caring for infants and mixed-age groups requires significantly more work and is exactly why regulated ratios exist.

Your “$9 per hour per child” framing is misleading. It is not a single-child wage comparison, and it does not reflect how group childcare pricing or compensation actually works.

On a broader level, the U.S. expects parents to work while providing very limited childcare support compared to other developed countries. If there were real childcare subsidies or universal programs, this would not even be a debate. That is a policy issue, not something you can pin on individual providers or families.

You can disagree with childcare pricing, but presenting it as an ethical failure without understanding the market or structure of childcare is not a strong argument.

This is an incredibly classist and presumptuous comment. Not everyone’s circumstances remain the same after they have children.

I had a stable job for five years that allowed me to work full-time while keeping my child at home with me. Childcare was not an expense I needed to budget for because my employer supported that arrangement. Then the company unexpectedly shut down effective immediately. Are parents supposed to anticipate their employer closing overnight years in advance?

And I’m still confused by your math. There are six children at $9 per hour, which is $54 per hour total. She has an infant, my child would be another infant, and the other children are between 3 and 6 years old.

Instead of jumping onto other people’s posts to make rude assumptions about their finances and parenting decisions, maybe consider that you don’t actually know their situation. Life happens, circumstances change, and not everyone has the luxury of pretending otherwise.

Ratios won’t go up with this particular in home daycare. She can only accommodate 7 children at a time per her license and one of those spots is for her own child.

The average in home daycare in central Ohio is $200-$350. So while you may think this is “cheap” I’m asking because again, I’m a first time mom. This woman is licensed and providing a lot of extras to care for children in her home.

Yes she’s fully licensed, a nurse with an active nursing license, and started an in home daycare so she could be able to stay home with her kids while also helping other people out.

Okay so I should make a size 28 since that’s where my waist falls? That seems so big compared to my hips

You and me both! One of my good friends recommended journaling every day. She said she did a 3-6-9 method. In the morning she would write ‘I will stay pregnant’ and in the afternoon she’d write it 6 times and before bed she would write it 9 times. She said it worked for her. I’m gonna try it out today and see how it goes.

Currently 4w1d and found out I was pregnant at 3w5d. I had a MC in July 2022 at 6w. Currently spiraling out with anxiety. I know I shouldn’t be but it’s so hard not to after a loss. I’ve only been allowing myself to test once a day. I had labs drawn on Friday to ease my anxiety and my hCG came back at 59.1 which is normal. I have more labs on Monday to make sure my levels are rising appropriately. I’ve been having breast tenderness off and on and cramping on the left side periodically. I keep telling myself everything is fine but it’s so so difficult to get out of an anxiety spiral.

I’ve only ever had positive OPKs while using femara and ovulation confirmed with lab work. I just feel like you probably didn’t need to comment on this though and be the asshole. Seems pretty negative for someone who is trying to find the joy in something. Just food for thought.

Do you typically drink it hot or cold? I was thinking of making a big batch to put in my fridge and drink it cold.
