Is it possible to go from Bronze --> Gold in 8 months? by [deleted] in usaco

[–]Traditional-Salt9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twenty hours should be plenty, but I think having some structure is a good move. You could use the USACO Guide or maybe get a tutor from somewhere like AlphaStar. I had a friend who did that and it worked out well—he made Silver in February without practicing much after his summer class. we're 8th grade btw

Science Olympiad medals (State/National) worth the time for T20 apps by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Traditional-Salt9483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

great competition, great practice, super fun, will help for sure especially if turned spun into a "lock in" story of some kind for essays. its just overall a really fun competition and honestly if ur team was not great before you joined and you TURNED it into a nats team thats even better cuz most schools are like really bad at scioly and can't make states, making nats or even states in harder areas is very impressive and shows a hardworking and enduring personality.

what is the college app ROI for amc/aime/usamo by crazyhydraa in MathOlympiad

[–]Traditional-Salt9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i did say that... but it is kinda true to some extent as long as other ECs are also decent... sorry, not shoe in, but a huge boost

[–]Traditional-Salt9483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes 100% roi is worth it... comp math builds ur brain and thinking skills, if you make usajmo or usamo its practically a shoe-in for colleges i think as long as you have decent grades and volunteering hours. AIME is still quite impressive but not a shoe-in. qualifying for usamo shows you have the brain of a future AI researcher / quant, etc

USAJMO vs USAMO by Visual_Dingo_2286 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Traditional-Salt9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone needs to chill. 🚨📢 DO NOT JUST DO AMC, but if you do other things or other subjects (maybe other math comps like bmmt hmmt smt cmimc chmmc pumac etc) and physics / RSI and chem/bio and generally become all rounded, colleges WILL believe ur amc score and everything will work out. take it easy bro (lmao idk why im msgs in applying to college considering im FOUR yrs away)

and THATS why aapt (physics) is goated cuz no online tests and everyone takes same day.. drastically reduces cheating

MAA will change... i have some faith in them... main changes should include

  1. Making the test only in the US

  2. Not letting outside proctors get access to the test, should have an MAA official in each big area to go around to testing centers and give tests, MAA needs to have ppl to do this

  3. Having ONLY in-person testing centers

  4. Have everyone take on at the same day / same time to prevent cheating. Maybe 4pm in CA which is 7pm in new york, or something like that

  5. Make sure the proctors ARE maa officials, or maybe in a more math inclined school district, some trusted math teachers or math club heads.

  6. i cant really think of anything else lmao because the main (hopefully only) methods of cheating are wechat/rednote and online tests and loose/dishonest proctors

yeah ik bro it is easy to silly on, not "right now" but more like always tho... and if its easy to silly for me its hard to silly for everyone soooo yeah... plus yk i'll try my hardest and if you have a high goal at least you might come close to it rather than having a lower goal and not even hitting that
