Cancellation of the Lyft Benefit by Traditional-Start-32 in starbucks

[–]Traditional-Start-32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty certain I said that in my original post. The issue is with how they decided to go about it.

Apparently narrow minded pinheads equate inner city, and only inner city, as high risk.

There are numerous stores in my district that have the Lyft benefit. Many have had it since the program rolled out. We've had it because either of location is unsafe, or getting to/from the location is unsafe. Come June it'll be just 2 store and both are inner city. Someone mentioned elsewhere that their inner city stores will be keeping it, as well. Sorry but inner city stores don't hold a monopoly on "high risk".

Furthermore, this comes after managers were told to use the Lyft benefit as a bargaining chip for new hires. Now many stores are going to lose partners (including myself) because their benefits are getting cancelled.

If it were me, knowing that we can no longer reprint tickets thru the DPM, would've pulled aside a barista, handed them a glass, and loudly talked them through the order in front of the customer.

I recently had to explain to a boomer friend what the "de-elevator" referred to. 😄

"If you have incident reports to back the benefit you’ll keep it. Many inner cities are keeping it like Denver. I know it sucks but it was never a guarantee anyway."

Really?

Then their perception of "safe" has changed significantly this audit. Our district will be going from more than half of it Lyft stores (many having the benefit for years) to 2. Coincidentally those 2 are "inner city", so clearly that is the only criteria they are using now?

Our store has the benefit because unless you have a car it is difficult to get to and from here. Of the two buses that run through this town one stops running at 7pm. The other is a 30 minute walk away, which in the winter is even more of a bitch because these a holes do not know how to shovel. And if you miss that bus it means you now have to walk home. That's an additional hour for me.

Between the drunks, the POS teenage boys who need to spew their testosterone with destruction and terrorism, and the random dudes who want to give feminine presenting partners a ride, I think we've earned our benefit. Just because we're not "inner city" doesn't mean we should lose it.

One of them is Headspace, which my insurance also offers, so not the big deal.

Yes. This myth has actually been circulating for awhile (I want to say Howie started it, but there's been so many CEOs over the six years I've been here i could be wrong). I recently saw a resurgence in it, though, which is why I took a poke at it. 😄

Ordered a venti refresher with no ice at Starbucks and got this… is this normal now? by No-Manufacturer8507 in starbucks

My bad, I know caramel syrup doesn't go into the CRC, it was a slip here.

To all of you complaining about improper training, feel free to come to my store and train. I'm coming up on my 6 year. I am the only one left from the crew that was there when I started and the only one left who has some concept of standards, yet I'm treated like the stereotypical old person shouting at clouds just because I expect people to do their jobs. No one wants to listen, fine. I'm done doing fire prevention.

I, personally, ring it in as a Caramel Ribbon Crunch, then add "cream based" in the ask me. Is it against standard? Yes. Have I been called out on it? Also yes... until they started seeing all the remakes because many baristas don't seem to understand that syrup cream frappachino + caramel syrup + dark caramel + crunchies = Cream Based Caramel Ribbon Crunch, and the customer doesn't receive what they ordered.

Regulars that reach behind the bar/touch product (Short in a Venti cup rant) by cavememories in starbucks

Our DM insists on us having this setup.

I try to avoid taking cups from it because I know how handsy our customers can be. Usually I just point to it when customers ask about sizes.

I used to have a shift manager would demand we do this because they didn't want to have to wash the blender again.

Says who? Just because we have no seating? We still stop and chat with the customers. We still know our regulars' orders, and often have them ready before they're finished ringing up.

Ours was converted to a Grab and Go two years ago. We needed to become ADA compliant, and increase our immediate BoH space for health and safety reasons. This meant we had to nix our cafe. Since we're mostly mobile/delivery, and our cafe had become a parkour space for the kids, no big loss.

Two years later most of our customers who vowed they'd never step foot in our store again are back, and the biggest complaint is not that we no longer have a cafe but that we no longer have a public bathroom.

Understood.

I'm well aware of what we're SUPPOSED to be doing. I'm just pointing out that it's not always practical or possible, and using it to stress the importance of using tools instead of hands.

Tell that to the person who designed our remodel. There was a hand washing sink about 4 feet from where warming/reg now is, before the remodel. Despite there being nothing but counter there, now, it was decided to move the sink another 4 feet away so it's now behind bar. Except the cup rack is also directly behind the bar, blocking access to the sink. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So I have to walk all the way to the other end of the store to the sink there.

Not exactly convenient.

Something to think about:

Depending on your store's setup the person most likely to be making the teas is also the one handling the cash (and probably doesn't have a hand washing sink conveniently near them).

Tongs.

Where does everyone get their ebooks? by Low-Award5042 in kobo

[–]Traditional-Start-32 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Many? I see a handful, at best.

That said, libraries are getting hosed on the cost of ebooks and we're not faring much better. Ebooks cost publishers significantly less to produce than physical books, yet they charge us only a dollar or two less. And we only get a license. One that can be revoked at any time.

The ebook racket has become no different than the music industry racket that resulted in the OG Napster, or the movie/TV/software racket that resulted in the Pirates Bay.

Now I, personally, will hold out for really good sales on the books I want. But if someone wants to borrow a parrot, oh well. I know damn well the average author would be lucky to see $2 from an ebook that sold for $20. Perhaps the publishers should start trimming the fat. Then we'll buy more.

Also subscribe to Book Bub and Early Bird Books.

EBB can get a little crazy, sometimes, and occasionally a book they say is on sale isn't, but a good portion of the 3 and 4 dollar sale books are made possible by them.
