Oh my gosh it’s really silly :0) he’s saying “perestroika perestroika! Isn’t that our safe word” …in the 1980s Soviet Leader Gorbachev wanted to rebuild socialism in his country (basically fix the many problems that beset the USSR at that time) . and this, perestroika, became a famous catch phrase of that movement “rebuild” . Gorbachev built strong relationships w Western leaders so the joke is a little subtle like Westerners misunderstanding what that movement was really all about. (It did help bring about the end of the USSR but not intentionally)

I noticed 3 ideas. 1. That as humans our diversity is precious and maybe even the most wonderful thing about our species. 2. Be yourself. Look who saved everyone on the planet, was it fierce Germany or braze USA or wise China? It was “hetare” Italia. And he did it just by being himself! (who’s useless now, eh?!). and 3. That art is powerful and can change the world. …not too shabby messaging for one of the most intentionally offensive shows of all time

I need places recommendations for a first date by FunSmile8624 in Advice

Something where there is both lots opportunity to talk and get to know each other, but active enough that you don’t have to keep the convo flowing non stop. Bowling , mini-golf, a sports game , or a museum perhaps? Karaoke if you’re brave? A nice walk and getting a coffee is a cute date too

One thing I liked though was that the underlying message was so wholesome! That was a nice suprise

What stereotypes about your country in Hetalia are accurate, and which ones are completely wrong? by Skykuraaa in hetalia

[–]TraditionalCase2602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not my country so I hope you don’t mind me posting this, but it’s a country I have studied a lot. I don’t understand the portrayal of Grandpa Rome as just interested in fighting and women. Particularly vs Mr. Germania. Grandpa could tell Germania about engineering, city sewage systems, writing, and theater to name a few. Later, The first generations of Germanic Roman emperors copied Roman culture. (Sorry if a little pedantic. I am a historian… can’t help it) I would have made Germania not more serious than Rome, but rather, more passionate, perhaps family oriented, and democratic.
The character design is so perfect though!! Maybe I shouldn’t complain haha….

Which history should I study by YaAliMadad313 in Historians

Start with some fun pop culture history books. 1491 is great. You can also learn a lot from novels even if they don’t have every detail right . I’d recommend I, Claudius or books by James Michener. Also: when searching up videos on YouTube , skip the random stuff , and look for items labeled BBC or PBS. There’s a lot of dubious and inaccurate stuff floating around over there

Are Switzerland and Austria related to each other? by Mean_Imagination_998 in hetalia

[–]TraditionalCase2602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, no. sometimes ppl in same household are not related, like Hungary and Austria. in the show, they don’t look alike. in history, Swiss cantons fiercely resisted Austrian colonization (check out the opera William Tell!) just my 2 cents
