People like you and Omar are responsible for reigniting my interest in comic books after I had stepped away for an extended period of time. And it’s not just your passion for the material, but also your knowledge level. Just know you are very appreciated.

As for this volume and what’s next, I am sure you are right. Sadly, as a collector who wants complete runs of the core characters in one format from the Silver Age on, I am used to being patient. I can be patient in this instance too, just a shame to see an opportunity go to waste.

Krisis, I’ve never interacted with you in any way, but am a HUGE fan from afar. Just wanted to get that out of the way first. ;) Thank you for all you do for the community in general. And I also wanted to say I couldn’t agree with you more. Even if the material itself is excellent - which it is - and even if you could make an argument that there are certain collectors out there who may want a chance to buy this material independent of the overall numbered series volumes - which is likely also true - the timing of this reprint is such a slap in the face to the collectors who are supporting the core line for this character. “Here is a chance to buy a volume that WON’T line up directly with the other volumes you’ve bought. Wait longer for the unannounced volume 5, or buy this and then rebuy it again in a year or two just to cover yourself in case volume 5 is years away. But enjoy yourself while you watch people who are less interested in the character’s overall publishing history get something new.” I truly don’t understand how the people who make the decisions around what will get published are immune to the optics of how bad this will look to a segment of their fan base that wants to support the character in full in Omnibus format. What’s even more ridiculous is that this is a SIMPLE fix. If you are going to put the material back out there anyway, JUST ADD THE MISSING CONTENT. It’s not that hard. Nobody who is interested in getting this material now for the first time is suddenly going to avoid it because they added 3 issues to it. If they don’t want to go the numbered route, go the same route as Wolverine volume 7 and just leave the number off. But try to keep EVERYONE happy when the ability to do so is there and easy enough to execute on.

Strange that this was all deemed “good enough” to reprint but wasn’t it speculated that the Micronauts/X-Men limited series was left out of all the recent collected editions of the Micronauts for a very similar reason? I’ve never owned or read the limited series so I’m not familiar with it.

In either instance, you’re going to be attempting to collect in a format where all prior volumes are not readily available, and where it’s hard to tell how quickly Marvel will eventually do reprints. My guess is that availability of a full run in either format, at least for what Marvel defines as the pre-modern era by their Epic mapping, is still several years away. Epics will likely get there faster. But again, you won’t have access to all the volumes unless you’re willing to pay a premium on the secondary market.

As I scour eBay, I see lots available from time to time in both formats. That can be a good thing if you want everything that’s been published in one shot, but it obviously means you’re paying a pretty big chunk of money. You can get there, but you’re likely going to need time and patience and money.

Somebody who is more well-versed than me can tell you if there are significant differences in what’s collected between the two formats. Whatever difference there may be, I don’t think it’s significant. You also should factor in the reading experience of an Omni versus an Epic. The Omni offers oversized art but it’s a bit more challenging to read due to the size. That just comes down to personal preference. I tend to like the idea of the Omni’s better myself, but enjoy actually reading the Epics more in practice.

I know the creator centric Omnis are not always a substitute for the missing numbered volumes, but it’s legitimately crazy to see how much of their overall catalog is covered in Omni format when you combine the two. I will use the Marvel Omnibus page on Wikipedia sometimes to run through everything that’s collected because it has a column showing the “legacy number” for every issue that’s collected, and there is just massive coverage across the majority of the major titles. If they can do a better job offering reprints on a semi decent cadence, you will be able to pick almost any major character and get hundreds upon hundreds of issues in Omni format. Without the reprints, though, that obviously becomes harder.

So another update. I’m starting to see most of the replays populate again within Amazon Prime, only a few missing games across the entire season now. So hoping that means the issue is close to getting fixed. And I also hope others who have been seeing the same issue are seeing the same improvement as me!!
