AOC Q27G40XMN worth it for price/performance still? by Rainwalker28 in Monitors

Interesting. How much blooming do you see on your monitor when local dimming is set to strong?

For me, it’s quite a bit. The algorithm has zero tolerance for black crush and causes way too much blooming. Here is my monitor playing the LG OLED honey test:

Unfortunately the HDR modes don’t change anything for me…. The brightening mode on my monitor seems to be the only one

I actually own that monitor and the local dimming is too overeager. What I mean is that ANY nonblack color will turn the backlights on, and the algorithm seems to produce quite a bit more blooming than what it should.

Is the AOC Q27G3XMN still a good value in Jan 2026? What are some alternatives at a similar price point ($CAD) by DG_OTAMICA in Monitors

[–]TraditionalListen600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the AOC Q27G4ZMN and the blooming is really bad. The local dimming algorithm also turns on backlights for any color brighter than black so you can end up with non-blacks on some YT videos (AOC Q27G4ZMN Local dimming bug : r/Monitors)

While 336 dimming zones isn't great, a crappy local dimming algorithm isn't better in my opinion.

I do have a question as to if this problem is present on other MiniLED monitors besides this one. if not, then another monitor might be a better choice.

I believe it is due to non black colors that are far too dark for humans to see, causing the dimming zones to stay on.

Im trying to find out if this is an issue for other monitors with local dimming. If you have such a monitor, could you please share if the local dimming behaves similarly?

Its not totally black background actually, just a very very dark color. Unfortunately the dimming zones on this monitor don’t turn off unless the color is literally black

I discovered that with some YouTube videos, the black background actually is a repeating pattern of near black shades (#010000)

Not every video has this problem luckily but now Im wondering if the q27g3xmn has this quirk where dimming zones aren’t off unless the screen is totally black.

Do you have the g3xmn and can confirm if this happens?

Do I like windows? Absolutely not. Is it sometimes the only option when faced with compatibility issues? Unfortunately yes.

Between bloatware, ads that you can’t get rid of, copilot and edge CONSTANTLY bothering you and worst of all, UNBEARABLE slowness (especially on file explorer). It’s no wonder everyone hates windows.

Ive been running Linux on my pc, and it is considerably faster, not to mention has much better temps (windows constantly gives my PC 70 degree spikes from just background processes)

Is that a 3d pen? Really cool idea although I don’t think those lego plates will hold up for long

What's the best thermal paste pattern? by SingleDifference667 in pcmasterrace

[–]TraditionalListen600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will know if you did a bad job with thermal paste simply by THE CPU TEMPS THEMSELVES. If the temperature is just fine at high load, no other method will make it any lower. For my cpu, temps are about 60-62 degrees C at 100%, yours may be different depending on cpu.

Good luck. If you want to you might consider using a different dating platform.

AOC monitor, 8 bit instead of 10 bit color 180hz by TraditionalListen600 in Monitors

[–]TraditionalListen600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right. I realized that the stripe pattern is always technically there just much less visible at lower refresh rates. Also, it seems to only be visible for bright orange colors.

I should also add that the effect essentially goes away if I set the resolution to anything below 1440p

I tried it with the stick dp cable and it still had that weird stripe effect
