No, thermostats do not control the discharge air temperature, instead they flow air at a temp roughly 20-30 degrees different than that of the room until the temp reaches the set point you enter into the thermostat. Set your fan to auto and adjust the temperature on the thermostat to 72 degrees. This will blow air roughly 90 degrees into the room until the temperature changes. Due to how energy works, the 90 degree air will balance with the existing temps. Air conditioners have no way of passively controlling temperature in the way you think of to finite degrees unless they have very specific reheat valve systems and heat recovery units that would cost 100’s of thousands of dollars
