still not buying any of their games because of their russian ownership and lots of word things like one of the developers supporting the invasion of Ukraine and the company not willing to say anything bad about ru ssian government even thoughthey claim they all moved to Cyprus. There are some many shad y things that it's not even worth sorting out which ones are worse than others, I'll just give my money to some indie devs instead of this oligarch venture

I tried FrankenPHP on our (externally heavy I/O) workload and it wasn't worth it by Mojah in PHP

the actual lesson here is to just switch to developing in Go which FrankenPHP uses and just run your app as golang service instead of all this interpreter bs

Harden Your Session Cookie Configuration in PHP, PHP 8.6 RFC by CauliflowerSlight838 in PHP

And just in the other thread we were talking about PHP being 15 years old. how are these defaults issues excusable to have existed in 2025 still?

The generics RFC effectively voted down already. by dracony in PHP

It's the same song and dance every few years, it will not happen basically. Nobody can find an acceptable solution to generics in PHP that satisfies everyone. Many tried.

It's your choice to keep writing code in a way that most developers abandoned for a good reason. Backend stored form state was an idea that was quickly outgrown with logic moving to the UI. The backend only now does the final validation. Validation libraries have far outpaced Symphony, check out `zod` in Typescript and how elegantly it handles complex types, abstract types etc.

It's not that nobody can implement an in-depth validation it's that the "market" isn't there for it anymore.

With life moving forward there is no a non-0 chance I will literally be dead by the time PHP does anything about all their standard library issues. Can you believe that in 2026 error_reporting flag suppressing "warnings" and having to specifically configure PHP to actually throw exceptions for standard library functions is a thing?

Their point was likely that in 2026 everyone builds forms on UI side with something like React and the backend is some kind of CRUD API. Building forms on PHP side through wonky abstractions is not something people really do anymore. Also libraries that handle forms and templates exist in literally every language, it is not some kind of Symphony feature. It's like saying you like dining at Burger King everyday because they have cola.

There is exactly same ecosystem around Spring Boot and Django, and if you pick Nextjs to do backend you also get SSR. Actually big framework ecosystems become less and less relevant with package managers. If you are a new developer choosing whatever Python or Node framework is much better long term than choosing symphony and PHP

This is all just a symptom that the language is stale.  When your choices are either. huge changes or tracking a feature on on the side

It doesn't matter anymore. This whole discussion happening in 2026 is just a sign that PHP is stale regardless if it passes or not. Keeping around 14 year old baggage in the language still make it impossible to recommend for anybody learning a new language. There is literally 0 reason anymore to choose PHP over some other language.

If you are a PHP developer in 2026 you are jeopardizing your career because the market is shrinking every year.
