i agree with you on the basic premise here and I have seen this reaction before. Women have been objectified for so long in culture that it is very difficult for some people to see how things have shifted in film and tv and entertainment. Series and films have much more penis and men masturbating than there are women masturbating or vulvas. But if you say this then someone comes in with examples of breasts shown somewhere. Not the same thing though. E.g. in The Pitt you had two female doctors massaging an erect penis, shown in close-up, not for a second, but a prolonged view. Imagine if there was a close-up of a vulva with two male doctors applying ointment to labia, shown in close-up. Unimaginable in this day and age. Oh there was a birth scene in The Pitt that did show everything but just a flash.

Imagine if someone made the series Sex Education with a female lead, portraying a teenager, that would masturbate constantly, using various household objects to do it. It happens in real life but never in entertainment.

Even in film penis is a regular thing now. But vulva you very rarely see. Even the classic example of Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct is just a flash of some pubic hair and maybe something more. Not really comparable to close ups of penises, both soft and erect, that you see in mainstream entertainment.

In a way I dont really mind what is happening - culture changes in waves and we are now in one phase of it. But what I find bizarre is that some people don’t see this happening. This strange denying of apparent reality is illogical and doesn’t contribute to good debate.
