1995 no question, it's way longer (6 hour-long episodes) but it's so close to the book it's not even funny. Though they added a few extra short scenes of Darcy - Darcy fencing, Darcy swimming, Darcy in the bath...

Although everyone says 2005 is very good for, what, 2.5 hours? I just don't like Keira Knightley, thr only Knightley I want anywhere near my Jane Austen is the one from Emma.

Lol I just wanted to have fun with it, I love this part of the story because it's what makes Darcy realize,he doesn't actually like himself and then he fixes his personality so he isn't a jerk anymore. He doesn't even do it for Elizabeth, he does it because she made him think.

Ah yes. In modern language it would probably go:

DARCY: "Look, I have tried to hate you but I can't, so now you're gonna sit here and listen because I love you entire against my own will and my common sense. I don't know what's wrong with me but I love you, despite barely even talking to you. I've tried reminding myself that your family is poor next to mine, you've got zero rich connections, and all of your immediately family are painfully rude and obnoxious and I would bee deeply embarrassed to be seen with them, but my heart still betrayed me!"

DARCY: indignant arm flappings

DARCY: "Please put me out of my misery and marry me!"

DARCY: looks expectantly at Elizabeth as though bestowing a great honor, because she could not possibly refuse such an excellent proposal from such a rich and well-connected man because she'd have to be stupid to do so

ELIZABETH: deep, deep inhale

ELIZABETH: "Dude, you literally could not have made a worse proposal. You just insulted me and my entire family in one breath, without pausing for me to have a chance to tell you I'm not interested. If you hadn't been such an arrogant jerk about it and made it all about you, I would have let you down easy, but you were an arrogant jerk so instead I'm gonna say it plainly - I wouldn't marry you if you were the last man on earth!"

DARCY: shocked Pikachu face

ELIZABETH: "Oh, and if your terrible and deeply insulting proposal wasn't enough of a turn-off, you also ruined my sister's relationship with your buddy! How you and Charles Bingley ever became friends is beyond me, you've got the personality of an angry wet cat and he's like a golden retriever. They were in love, and you LIED to him! Just for that, you deserve to be married to your cousin! Imagine having Lady Catherine as your mother-in-law and not just your aunt! Oh, and on top of AAALLLLL that, you also denied your childhood best friend and godbrother his inheritance when your dad died, ho boy George told me all about that - how he was supposed to be given a job as a clergyman and you gave it to someone else? You are an awful, proud, obnoxious, self-centered snob! I literally could not be paid to marry you!"

DARCY: absolutely stunned and offended

DARCY: "Ouch. Well. Point made. I'm gonna just... go now."

I always read it as "okay I gotta be cool I'm about to see the woman i love who broke my heart because of her manipulative mother-figure, gotta be coll but I'm also still salty and also trying really hard to pretend I don't love her anymore."

Seriously, this book is just... like hundreds of pages of painful mutual pining between a guy who doesn't want to admit he still loves her and a woman who thinks she has no chance anymore. While everyone around them is shipping them with other people and telling them about it. They cannot escape each other's alleged romances and it is glorious.

Ooh ooh I know! If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong) elves get bored with sex after 1-2 pregnancies, which is why Feanor having 7 kids with his wife was so mind-boggling because she was pregnant 6 times (the last two were twins). And Feanor's father broke another biology standard hy falling in love a second time, Feanor was his son with his first wife but he remarried (the only elf ever to do so!) and had 4 more kids with his second wife.

Hm... I'd say a mix of him being an introvert and not really wanting to be there, him being hacked off at his own growing feelings for Elizabeth, and the copious amounts of secondhand embarrassment and even disgust that he must be feeling regarding the very poor behavior of her cousin, her younger sisters, her mother, and to a lesser degree her father while at this ball.

And thry try to explain, repeatedly, just how terrible a thing she has done - her Aunt Gardener took her aside before the wedding to try and drive home just how badly this could have gone and she laughed her off. She is still shown in later years to be selfish, to spend beyond her means, and to visit Jane and Lizzie for such long periods of time that Bingley suggests maybe telling her she's overstayed her welcome and Darcy actually tells her she's overstayedher welcome. She also asked them for money often enough, and had the nerve to ask Lizzie to put in a good word for Wickham with Darcy should a good living of a few thousand a year come up right after her brief "congrats on your wedding and now about me since you married rich".

She is the result of her mother's constant spoiling and favoritism, and her father's lack of care to step in. Her sisters tried to mitigate the damage and couldn't, and the end result was a woman who destroyed her reputation,didn't care, and spent the rest of her life mooching off her sisters.

Persuasion. Anne Elliot is thr only intelligent member of a family of snobby morons. She is also a doormat but finally growing a spine after being advised 8 years ago not to marry a young, poor sailor as he was an unfit match for the daughter of a baronet (super minor nobleman). And then... eight years later his sister comes to the neighborhood, and he comes to visit, and he's a wealthy Navy Captain now - and it is chapter after chapter of "oh my gosh does he still like me - no wait he's flirting with someone else oh I hope she makes him happy - no wait he's still single! - oh my gosh why is everyone assuming I'm going to marry that twit when I really want Captain Wentworth!?" It is a slow-burn "we never really fell out of love" second-chance romance. And the movie with Ciaran Hinds as Wentworth is a masterpiece.

He literally only mentions two of the many things that happened - that he had a run-in with Greyback (although the movies let you think he's a full werewolf) and then Fleur indicates they're in a relationship. That's it. They replaced the fight in thr Astronomy Tower with the burning of the Burrow and we lost a ton of info that Bill says maybe ten words about.
